That's what they are saying. It will certainly be the last for a while and if they come back with completely new actors I won't care. So it's certainly my last Jurassic Park.

What if the next Jurassic Park figures out a way to balance finishing off the JP 6 storyline and starting fresh for a new generation?

That's my explanation of why the latest Jurassic movie is getting traction.
I mean, it’s also a good movie.

Let's get back to Top Gun: Maverick, maybe? The movie's amazing, and a real triumph at the box office!

As long as it deservedly keeps making money, who cares if or why Jurassic World does just as well? Any theatrical success is a win in this day and age.. and is especially impressive for a movie that is not tied to comic book properties / Star Wars, or any other huge ongoing 'four quadrant brand.'

So we can put the narrative that theaters are dead to rest.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised not only by how the movie managed to up the emotional stakes compared to the first movie, but also the action and excitement: that climax was freaking pulse-pounding!

The cast brought their A-game, and Kosinski found the PERFECT balance between (short and sweet) fanservice and advancement of the characters and story, bringing Maverick and the Top Gun into our time.

Watched this last night and loved it. I'm usually skeptical about sequels being made decades after the original film but they really nailed it with this one. I'm in the camp that thought it was better than the original.

Yup, it's an all-timer in my book. Always happy when something comes out that I know I'll be fond to revisit down the line.

Really though I think theres a pretty big difference in how more cultural cache the two franchises had, Jurassic Park was arguably the biggest blockbuster of the early 90's in appeal plus it has Pratt as well as returning cast.

Top Gun really I don't think could have gotten around with the same clumsy nostalgia as Jurassic Park and the Starwars sequels did, it needed to be genuinely good and indeed to genuinely feel like the original rather than just throwing out a few references.

If it maintains drops around 40% for the next few weeks, it'll easily hit $500 million.

Week 4: $30M M-T + $30M weekend = $453M
Week 5: $18M M-T + $20M weekend = $491M
Week 6: $10M M-T + $12M weekend = $513M

I don't know why anyone would be excited about the new Top Gun movie when we've had 4 good Iron Eagle movies for almost 30 years now.

The cultural cachet will always count for something when it comes to a franchise - not that TG was a franchise before, but it is now! - but TGM is blowing up because by most accounts it's just a fookin good film, an old-fashioned sort of blockbuster that puts every penny up on the screen. And although paying homage is certainly part of what it does, it's been 36 years! So there's only so much goodwill that the paying audience is gonna have as a great many of them weren't even born when the first movie came out.

Personally I thought this movie was gonna do okay business but not amazeballs simply because Tom Crooze minus Mission Impossible usually equals meh box office, it's incredible when you think that he'd never had a $100M opening weekend to his name before. But it's been hyped up as a cinematic event first and foremost, a thrill ride that only theatres can deliver in this post-pandemic world, and it's that rare beast of a movie that actually lives up to the hype which is why it's got the legs that it has. The Top Gun nostalgia is the cherry on top.

Even the first JP was not that good, for an adult to appreciate. Take the kids out of the picture, and there's nothing there really.

(Kids meaning going with your kids, and enjoying the experience with them...)
