It left out unnecessary changes, didn’t add things that didn’t need to be there and didn’t change characters out of the blue. In other words, you can milk the nostalgia but you have to do it right. Kosinski and Cruise did. Most don’t.

Again I think theres a significant difference between nostalgia just taking the form of cheap refferences to an earlier work and actually recreating what drew people to that work. For example I think Rogue One feels like the original Starwars films to me whilst The Force Awakens feels like a JJ Abrams film with Starwars references fed into the nostalgia grinder instead of Star Trek.

I would also say that dramatically as well this isnt just a case of going over the same ground again. Its not removing the wisdom a character like Han Solo gained so you can replay his story. Indeed I think Maverick really is a bit of an indictment how Han was used, like Han he's in the same situation decades latter and like Han he has a father/son plot(albeit surrogate) but here I think you feel the weight of someone being stuck in that loner adolescent life for decades, of not being able to commit to romance or feelings of paternal responsibility. It feels like an honest and natural progression of the character and is dramatically successful.

Come now John. You can’t just cherry pick comments you don’t like but disregard others because you happen to be pally with them.

The same old folk were banging on about Dr Strange beating The Batman’s box office every chance they got in the actual ‘The Batman’ thread. If we are to move away from this stuff, both sides need to give it a rest.
Your point is valid but it’s hard to take it too seriously unless you adopt that stance with the usual suspects. (You know who they are).

Not counting 2020 for obvious reasons, this year will be the first time since 2014 that the number one movie of the year won't be a Marvel/Star Wars film, because it's going to be either Top Gun or Avatar that wins the year.

Really excited to watch Tom Cruise back on the big screen after a long time in this action-packed movie. Tom Cruise is the real pioneer of action films and his action movies are usually above average which makes it a no-brainer to watch this movie in cinemas and I can't wait!

I was underwhelmed with it. Given her history, and Top Gun's history, I expected something more driving and rock-based.

I'd say it was better than that OneRepublic song though, that song was a snoozer and didn't jibe with the film, I thought.

I would rather have heard the rest of the Top Gun Theme instead, or more than just a snippet of Danger Zone.
