So the regular blu and the steelbook both have the same cover? Weird.

The press release only had a picture of the steelbook so maybe the front art is being used as a placeholder until the standard design is finished. They announced it yesterday for “Captain Picard Day” (from TNG “The Pegasus”) and probably before they would have otherwise, considering this aired (streamed) after Discovery S4 which still hasn’t been announced for disc.

Unlike The Mandalorian, the seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Book of Boba Fett, or the current Obi-Wan Kenobi. At least Paramount gives Star Trek fans who are not Paramount+ subscribers a chance to see new content on physical media.

I understand The Walt Disney Company's desire to attract new viewers to its streaming service, but I don't agree with the company's apparent decision to keep all of its Disney+ Original Star Wars content out of physical media permanently.

Anyway, back on topic...I have the Picard: Season Two steelbook on pre-order.

It is very frustrating that Disney is not releasing shows like that on disc for sure. Hell, I would even be happy if they would release seasons after they have been on streaming for a year. Just make them available in the future. Same for many other shows like Homeland....first 7 seasons released..then Disney took over and the last one never came out. So yeah, I applaud the fact that Star Trek series are still getting releases.

For me, the reasons why I prefer physical media over streaming are:

1. I am hard of hearing. Disney+ programming does not have easily accessible closed captions or subtitles - unless you have Roku or a similar device.
2. Better audio-visual quality on Blu-ray discs

Paramount understands that Trek watchers are huge nerds so even many people who do subscribe to the app will also buy the disc. Disney is basically hegemonic and while there are many Star Wars nerds who would buy discs, they’re outnumbered by casual viewers who passively absorb whatever’s new on Disney+ and are just crazy about cute baby Yoda. Besides, it wouldn’t be Star Wars if it wasn’t somehow obscured or withheld from physical home video.

If I recall correctly, the last original-to-Disney+ Star Wars content released on physical media was the first season of Star Wars: Resistance. I could be wrong, and I will check to see if I am wrong.

I am sure that Paramount Global is aware that many of us Star Trek nerds do not subscribe to Paramount+ for whatever reason, but is at least willing to keep fans happy by releasing some content on discs.

It's amazing how two huge media companies have such different approaches to business and consumer service.

Resistance was on broadcast Disney Channel first, and only one of its two seasons got a DVD.

I absolutely hated the second season of Picard, but am still buying it just because I want to support the idea of Trek being released on Blu-ray.

I’m also downloading the Ready Room (interview) episodes for all the Trek series that I watch. I’ve found the episodes are larger (so, better quality) on Paramount’s website (startrek.com), compared to the ones on Paramount’s YouTube channel.

I wish I could enjoy that show, but I only watched once; I just can't take Wil Wheaton as a personality. Seems like a nice guy, but he grates on my nerves. I always liked Wesley, though.

I pre-ordered the steelbook the other day.I'm surprised Star Trek Discovery Season 4 didn't get released first.Didn't Season 4 of Discovery release on Paramount + before Picard Season 2? Not that I'm complaining since I buy both shows on physical media. So the order isn't really important as long as it eventually gets released.

Exactly! I live in an upside-down reality where I’ve always loved and defended Wesley Crusher, but Wil Wheaton gets on my nerves, whereas the greater outside world seems to flip that.

He just seems incredibly egotistical and insincere to me. Which is a strange combination.
[Show spoiler]And that appearance he makes in Picard season two: awful. I saw no Wesley, only Wil; and I could have lived without it.

Sad to see Wil Wheaton's decline over the last 10 yrs or so. He's so emotionally fragile, bordering on pathetic.

This is a big part of what turns me off about him. I get it, dude had a painful childhood. Many people do. And him being open about it can theoretically help other people deal with theirs. But when I've heard him talk about it, it's struck me as being attention-seeking rather than cathartic. Maybe that's a poor reflection on me and not on him, I don't know; but whatever the case, he turns me off big-time.

Glad he's got a show and a venue to express himself, though; I just feel compelled to avoid it.
