Army of Darkness has been my favorite movie ever since I saw it in the theater in 1993.

The thing I dislike (just a minor bit) are some of the slow-mo action shots at the end of the movie. Other than that, I simply love the movie.

Coupled with the fact that I missed the boomstick edition on dvd, I own the Directors cut (numbered)...however the extended scenes are very rough. Let's get this puppy on blu-ray! Both director's and theatrical cuts.

on topic, my favorite movie is dogma, but i thought that the rubber crap monster was completely stupid and unnecessary, something i think they admitted to in the commentary and in other interviews later on

The thing I hate about Army of Darkness is that they haven't put out a sequel.

I also thought Sean Astin was a great Samwise. In the book he was more of a pu**y so I think they actually improved upon his character dramatically.

I still remember that joke about LoTR. All that you have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to you. Easy for a guy in a 10 hour movie to say.

Her exquisite beauty, strong voice, and nuanced performance are some of my favorite parts of that movie. I guess you would have preferred something else. There's just no accounting for taste.

+1. I was going to say the exact same thing. The thing that bothers me the most about that last scene with the Joker is that Batman is clearly exhausted (physically or mentally or both) yet he keeps up that damn growl. I thought it totally ruined the moment.....

One of my favorite movies, Miller's Crossing.

I hate it when the two thugs who are supposed to make sure Tom has killed Bernie let him do it alone and then don't even check for the body. I realize that there are people as stupid as this but the plot shouldn't have to rely on such stupidity.

Other than that the film is perfect.

I do have a question though. You said that Cory McAbee has made 9 or 10 films. I found that he has been in 9 or 10 films, but has not directed that many himself. Is my information wrong? If not, how would I find the other movies he has made? From just the past couple days of being back on the forums after a long time, I've found that you have a very narrow, one track minded opinion.* So, any movie that would knock a #1 spot movie out of its position and make you say that he is your favorite director after only seeing one of his movies, says a lot about a film. But for a director that hasn't proven himself like Terry Gilliam, its a bold statement to make. I felt the same way about M. Night, but now I've realized that he either captured lightning in a bottle or he sold his soul like Cuba Gooding, Jr. did to win an oscar.

*I don't mean that as an insult.
You should be intrigued. It's very good. The production value isn't necessarily as high as your average indie movie, but I'd argue that it does more with its budget than your average indie movie would as well. It's really inspirational to anybody who wants to make movies but thinks they can't (although that isn't the main reason I love it so much)

As for the confusion about how many movies Mr. McAbee has made, I apologize if I worded it ambiguously. Terry Gilliam has made 9 (going on 10) movies. Including Heath Ledger's actual last film.
Cory McAbee has made about 4 short films, 1 feature length and 1 miniseries (Stingray Sam).

I do have a one track mind. I'm really critical of a lot of movies, because - well, it's a long story.
I was raised Pentocostal and didn't really see a lot of movies rated any higher than PG, until I was in my early teens. I didn't start watching a lot of R-rated movies, until I was 16 or 17. So, I wasn't raised on a lot of the movies people were raised on and that's taught me one thing: don't believe the hype. There's a lot of people who love movies because they grew up on them. I'm not saying that they only like it for nostalgic reasons, but the nostalgia definitely helps them along the way.
And not believing the hype, I'm afraid still applies to The American Astronaut. I would recommend it to just about anybody, but not everybody. And, although nearly every person I've shown it to have ranked it, almost immediately, among their favorites, I still would say it's a taste sensitive movie.
It isn't trying to be highbrow and it isn't trying to be grindhouse. As far as indie pictures are concerned, it's very much its own thing.
I make no qualms about recommending it to you, but I caution you not to believe the hype. Everybody likes things for different reasons, and you might let yourself down if you expect to enjoy it as much as I do.

As for your question about where to find his other stuff: AmericanAstronaut.com. and Amazon.com sell his stuff. He sells a collection of his short films, on DVD and American Astronaut should be available, too. The only problem with getting your paws on American Astronaut is that, since I've bought it the prints have become very limited and there's usually a long waiting period to buy it from Amazon or Cory's site.
Although Stingray Sam isn't available outside of the film festival circuit, yet, I can tell you that your best bet for his short films and for The American Astronaut would be if you have a Netflix subscription. Barbie Shrimp rented both on Netflix, I believe.

Get over it. I know I'm intruding on your personal argument and risking hypocrisy, myself, but you do the same crap all the time.
