What is the cheapest receiver that does the HDMI to HDMI Video Scaling?? I've been looking around on this, I've found a couple the Pio SC 09, & the Onkyo Integra 9.9. They are both extremely expensive. I was wonder if anyone knew of any other receivers taht may be able to do this??
In my search for this Video scaling, all of the receivers that are $500-$850 only do it thru the analog signals. That means I have to use the components. I would like to use the HDMI. This seems like a Hi end AV receiver feature. I'd like to stay between $750-$1,099 |

I agree with Mr Roy, I want my HD sources to come through with as little interference as possible. whether its 720p or 1080i, I usually don't have a problem watching those resolutions, so I would prefer to keep them as untouched as possible.

I would like for my 720p or my 1080i to upscale to 1080p by going to HDMI thru HDMI. HDMI has less wires. I think I get a better audio & sound quality thru HDMI. |

As for 1080i, your TV might (probably) de-interlace the signal converting to 1080p. |

If I hook it up thru the component it upscales that 720p signal into a 1080p signal. With the Onkyo Integra 9.9 it takes that 720p signal thru the HDMI & upscales it to a 1080p signal.... U can definately tell the difference in the signal/picture quality. It uses a HQV Video processor, with some Silcon technoloy. It upscales HMDI to HDMI Video processing. With that receiver everything you watch is in 1080p. No matter if its Cable/Sat, Blu ray/ DVD. I was wondering if there is another AV receiver that will do the same thing at a cheaper price point??? The PIO SC 09 does it also but it retails at $7,000. You could probably buy one for $4,500 on the internet. I don't want to spend that kind of money. The Integra 9.9 is around $1,800. Is that the least expensive Av Receiver that does this?? |

Your original thread.
Again, no matter what you do, everything you watch will not look like Blu-ray unless it is Blu-ray. 1080p does not equal Blu-ray. I still don't understand your want of everything being upscaled. |

Here's the thing, say I get the 885 and it upscales my 480i picutre to a 1080i picture. Then I get a better picture period. It may not be 1080p but it took my standard def picture & made it a HD pic!!! |

If you are looking for a receiver that implements the HQV Video processor look at the Onkyo 876 It is in the price range you suggested, but you may be somewhat disappionted in the end result. |

The receivers "up-convert" any analog signal to 1080p, just like an up-converting DVD player does. If you put a 480 line signal into a receiver, the signal is still only 480 lines. The receiver will "fudge" the rest of the lines and the output will give you 1080 lines. Granted, it is a highly educated "fudge." Some receivers do it better than others. If you are expecting a upconverted signal to look as good as a blu-ray movie, you are going to be extremely disappointed. Last edited by MrRoy; 06-18-2009 at 08:44 PM. |

I see your logic in wanting to make all your sources look there best but a receiver with cheap up-conversion is just that, CHEAP. If you do get a receiver with upconversion don't exspect the image to look much better. Save your money, if you really want your sources to look there best get a DVDO Edge. |

http://emotiva.com/umc1.shtm This is suppose to process audio & video. I don't know why I need to process the audio too?? So I'm mixed up. I think EMOTIVA UMC-1 will take any audio source & upscale it to 7.1 PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THIS THING & TELL ME WHATS IT ALL ABOUT. |

Exactly. It's just like a little exercise we did in my philosophy class. Blu-ray is 1080p. "If Blu-ray is 1080p, then anything that's 1080p must be Blu-ray." It doesn't work like that. Just because it's 1080p doesn't mean it's going to be or look anything like Blu-ray.

With that being said, it might be worth investing into a good receiver to upconvert analog inputs to 1080p and possibly a television that will convert a 720p signal over HDMI to it's 1080p native resolution very effectively. Curious, what kind of TV do you have now? |

Nothing changed from what we told you in the other thread, if you don't care about using your expensive Monster HDMI cables the SC05 will do what you want using component/analog to HDMI. If you insist on using the Monster HDMI cables you're going to have to pay extra for HDMI to HDMI scaling.
