Hey! This is exciting news!
According to Rolf Giesen and Anna Khan's 2018 book, "Acting and Character Animation: The Art of Animated Films, Acting, and Visualizing", quote: "(George) Pal switched to model animation when he was commissioned a commercial for Oberst Cigarettes in 1932. A heavily damaged print was recently found in the vaults of the Berlin Cinematheque..." Any chance this will be included in the third collection? |

Is this eventually going to be sold for a more reasonable price once it's released? I own the first two volumes but they cost me around $40-$50 each. To get this one it seems the minimum I can pledge is $110 which is unfortunately way too much for me to afford for one title. But it's a shame for those of us who have vol 1 and 2 to miss out on vol 3 due to the high cost. I understand the need for funding, but this should eventually be made available for more fans to enjoy, like vol 1 & 2 were, not just those able to afford backing the $110 or more.
Please tell me this will be available for a more reasonable price once it's released? |

I "answered my own question" on this by watching Mr. Leibovit on "Stu's Show": https://www.stusshow.com/ppv88.html In the show, Mr. Leibovit does discuss the film print in question. (The host refers to it as "Midnight" - but if I'm not mistaken, "Midnight" was only the FIRST of the commercials Pal made for Oberst. He made many more after the first proved so popular, and we don't know which one it is that was found in Berlin.) Nonetheless, he confirms that, yes, he does have it, but it is in rough shape. The film restorer believes it can be salvaged but it will take time and, of course, MONEY - and that he is unsure if it will be feasible in time for "Volume 3". |

Converting from DPX to ProRes 4444HQ tonight, the long awaited 35mm Gasparcolor print of On Parade (1936) sent from England. Charming George Pal masterpiece that utilized hundreds if not thousands of replacement figure puppets. From here clean up then color correction. Will probably take a good couple of months.

Sneak Peek before/after restoration George Pal's Shoe Shine Jasper (1946). This was the final Jasper made for Paramount Pictures and many consider their favorite. Here's a glimpse of the kind of fantasy storytelling Pal knew best and would later revisit with feature films like "tom thumb" (1958) and "The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm" (1962)

After nearly a year, first Paramount Pictures George Pal Puppetoon, the spectacular WESTERN DAZE (1940) is a jaw-dropping restoration from the original Technicolor Successive Exposure Negative! Ray Harryhausen's first job in Hollywood. One of the most anticipated Puppetoons included on The Puppetoon Movie Volume 3. Your continued support will be greatly appreciated.
