All HDTVs can accept/decode a Dolby Digital or PCM 5.1 signal via HDMI - it's in the spec. Stereo 2.0 is not needed.

But hey, I guess those filthy plebs shouldn't be watching UHDs anyway, right? I mean, HOW DARE THEY!!!

Maybe if they bother to fix the framing, too. It's the only keeping me from being excited about this.

“What deep catalog titles can we release this month?”
“Nah, let’s just redo Dracula in DV and plop it in a SteelBook instead.”

They just now literally realized DV and a BD-100 improves the disc.

Is there any sense that this new edition is likely to get a standard case release later?

I thought people have been saying in the thread that these Sony upgrades of existing UHDs tended to be truly limited. It sounds like this steelbook might be all we get.

Might be wise not to wait.

As long as the movie doesn't look like a visit in candyland, I'm ok with the DV pass. This film's colours never "popped" (apart from the count's red coat, maybe).

Reason, why I'm all over this release are the theatrical subs and that's why after owning this on VHS, DVD, 2 blus and the current 4k, I'll take the plunge, once more!

And I also hope, Sony will release another Starship Troopers 4k, with adjusted brightness. The initial release was great, but that brightness level, boy....!

I'm super excited to buy this disc, purely for the original subtitles, they are a big part of the intended artistic effect of the film.

I hope Sony revisits Close Encounters and Crouching Tiger, two very early UHDs where I have huge problems with the image quality.

It kinda makes sense. For the majority of people the 2017 release is more than enough and hard to justify a double dip.

This is a very niche release, for the enthusiasts.

I still expect it to get a keepcase release somewhere around the world, potentially Germany.

I avoid steelbooks like the plague, with only a couple of exceptions, but I've been hoping for years for a reissue with the original subs, so I'll break my rule and buy this steelbook.

I saw this movie in the theater in a city in a rural area, no upgrades to these theaters until the late 90's early 00's. (side note we saw it maybe 3 weeks after the release date and we got into the theater 10min before the previews started and the three of us couldn't sit together it was still SOOOOO crowded! They were also playing it on two screens at a time which was never heard of back then at these theaters, and it was still that crowded).

As for home, I have a musician husband who doesn't want a surround sound system. We have an old receiver from the 80's and the speakers are from the 90's and is mostly (90% of the time) for playing music not movies. He did buy some converter since our new TV doesn't have the right audio out that our old one had, so we do play movies through the stereo just to help with the lower end parts of the audio. For the most part it's just through the TV speakers. (another side note I have weird issues with my hearing so I REALLY HATE surround sound mixes that confuse my hearing, it freaks me out in a way where I can't enjoy the movie, but this is just 100% with me, but it makes it so I'd never really want a surround sound system so I'm happy he doesn't want one either).

But I'm happy to see this re-release since I came into this thread months ago and had it on my to buy list, but it wasn't high up due to the issues some were having with things like the subtitles etc, but looking again now it's higher up on the list to buy and will pre-order it as soon as I can!

Thank you! Certainly looks right. But again, when I try to get there myself, starting from the homepage of Amazon US, I only get the old releases...
Oh well, been there before with Amazon...
Needless to say - PRE-ORDERED!

I am gonna hope that there'll be international variations of the steel, so I don't have to spend as much in customs and shipping..

So do I! Fingers crossed, it will be announced prior to US release date!
But regarding that price including customs and shipping? I've done so much worse...

Amazon's search engines are designed to highlight random junk and hide many somewhat obscure pages that still legitimately match the search. It's infuriating.

Other members from Europe have also experienced this type of thing, that new discs are listed as "not in stock" if the delivery address is on European mainland. When the adress is then changed to somewhere in UK or US, all of a sudden the discs are "available". Apparently, this started during the pandemic. Go figure...

Absolutely pre-ordered this, even at that price, and even if I just bought it last fall, LOL.

I'm that much of a DolbyVision-ho, LOL. I bet this will look fantastic.

Hell, I might even use this as the impetus to finally get an OLED...
