yup and it kind of annoyed me just because every so often people make mistakes. That being said the feature was added for stuff like screeners. Not for mass market content.

Obviously 4k streaming is better then VHS, that goes beyond saying, but I don't watch the VHS tapes I bought o0ver 30 years ago either. There was also a time when I lived in an extremely small rental and basically ate ramen and eggs. It does not mean I need to accept living like that now.

exactly that is why I don't worry a bit. No matter what happens I have more than enough to watch and probably buy (i.e. there are a lot of films on UHD BD that I would buy but since I don't have time to watch them all I ration what I buy) .

Yeah my rant yesterday was all about perspective...A couple of my sales guys were pissing and moaning over how hard done by they are over a recent downturn in sales. They're all leasing sports cars and paying down mortgages on houses that are way too much house for their needs.

I was a financial advisor for many years in a previous life, I will never judge anyone for how they spend their money. I left home at 16 and put myself through high school and paid for my university education on my own so I have eaten a lot of mac and cheese too lol....I've travelled all over the world and I've seen REAL poverty close up.

As I said, I wasn't trying to have a go at anyone. I'm probably too sensitive to anything I perceive to be whining...I don't allow it in my home but I apologize if anyone here took offence...I guess we wouldn't have much of a forum without it...

Happy Canada Day!!!

I have not seen /bought the last one.

I really liked the Harry Potter books and films, the first FB was real good but IMHO the second one looked like they are trying to milk the HP franchise in the sense that you have XXXX & his friends are the only ones that can stop megalomaniac YYYYY and his army of followers that want to take control of the wizarding world and subjugate humans. replace XXXX by HP or Newt and YYYY by Vlodermort or Grindelwald and you have one or the other, I was so hoping that since Newt wrote the book on magical creatures and the films were named after his book, that it would be more about "researching" them.

agree we have it extremely good and I was not offended by your post.

As to people whining, I know it is hard to empathies with someone "leasing sports cars and paying down mortgages on houses that are way too much house for their needs" since it is of their own doing, but that is what I sdee as the flaw with todays society, most people feel they need to keep up with the Jones's instead of asking "what is important to me" and focus on that But let's face it people are accustomed to a life style and when something interferes with maintaining it it hurts no matter how big the house or how fancy the car or.....

I would not want to give up my home or the food I eat or just because I did without all that back when I was much younger. Back in 93 I went to Europe for 6 months, some of ity was sleeping on Friends and Family couches, some of it was sleeping in the car/train/ship bench/beaches , I definitely can't do that any more. we also both complained about University, but let's face it we had it good compared to students in the US today, we all do a bit of useless whining .

Happy Canada day to you to.

Unfortunately the same can't be said for streaming.

I don't totally agree with you guys, not everything these days gets a Physical Release. Then you also have to consider OOP, and the price for these items will go up. With Streaming you have access to more content, and it comes out a lot sooner than Physical if at all.

The same DI is used to make that Digital Streaming or Physical Disc. So where do you think that DI is stored, on a Server where Streaming Files are also stored. Access to that Streaming File is Server to Server, while access to Physical is a Physical Print.

Physical Media will remain as long as there is a good Profit Margin, but looking at the Revenue Report the Average BD Price remains at $20 which includes UHD. It doesn't look like there is a good Profit Margin, and also the reason why Movies and TV Shows come out in DVD and BD and not in UHD!

So IMO Streaming Digital is getting better all the time, especially when you have good access to all the Streaming Providers!

Which is fine.

You only like streaming. I don't know why you have theories about physical media or why you care about it at all.

I suspect you realize it offers better quality so the mere existence of it is a problem for you but that will bother you for exactly as long as you want it to.

You will find plenty of streaming lovers esp if you look in the Digital movies forums here. I don't think there is a good forum specifically for digital movies but that may be the "future" like streaming itself. ... Always, just around the corner.

This kind of stuff is something you don't understand well but you repeat often.

I can agree there are high quality master source files used to create media.

However how those files are mastered for online or physical media are completely different. This seems to be at the root of your mis-understanding.

Imagine my friend makes a painting. I take a pic of it with my phone and someone takes a picture of it using a high quality SLR camera and a tri-pod and maybe some additional lighting. The painting isn't changed but the results of each of the pictures is very different. The person with better tools and taking better care will capture a better copy.

It's the same with streaming. ... The version they make for commuters to watch on iPad is not crafted the same as as a movie mastered for disc release.

The online version has to be compressed to the maximum because most people have bad connections or want smaller downloads. I know folks who really don't seem to care about the quality of the presentation as long as they get the gist of the story.

I really care about the presentation. Watching the new Dr Strange movie was kind of a drag because I can only imagine how much better it will be presented on disc. On the other hand, A few nights ago I watched Sharkbait which is a Tubi film ... I didn't watch it on Tubi thank goodness but I watched it via Kanopy so I didn't have commercials. The movie was trash actually and barely watch-able but I watch all the shark movies and I tend to have low expectations for most of them. I use streaming for movies I don't care so much about.

Your observations as usual are patently untrue. You don't purchase physical media so you have no experience with the subject matter which you continue to pretend you have an informed opinion of. Say whatever you want about streaming but avoid topics you have zero experience with please.

When a physical title goes out of print it may became expensive. When a digital title is de-listed it will become completely unavailable. There are thousands of discs that have been out of print for years (or decades) but can still easily be bought for low prices.

More support for physical media means more titles available, more copies sold, and more copies in circulation after each title goes out of print.

But more support for streaming doesn't help prevent any company from deciding that they find a title to be too offensive or controversial and pulling it from sale. Since there is no used market with streaming once a title has been de-listed no one will be able to buy it anymore regardless of how many copies were sold before it was de-listed.

The Simpsons episode "Stark Raving Dad" is a prime example of all of this. The DVD set of The Complete Third Season contains the episode and is readily available on eBay for under $10 even though it has been out of print for years. But since the producers decided the episode was inappropriate it was removed from all digital providers. Those same producers probably would have removed it from all the DVDs as well but they literally have no possible way of doing so.

When you give the studios absolute control over every copy of each movie and TV show anything can disappear at any time.

The Black Phone was great. It felt refreshing watching a horror movie not set in modern times.

Streaming is getting better all the time, thats a laugh, heck the bits rates for what you are watching has dropped in the last 2 years as these hosts use different compression schemes trying to economize their server outputs for consumers. They did that because if they hadn't all the hours people watch mostly HD content would exceed their data caps which most ISP customers have to put up with. I know you don't have that, but most do. Then there is the fact that streaming hosts gradually raise their subscriptions rates.

I did wonder about the Streaming getting better all the time notion.

When and how is it getting better ? ...

Netflix cuts the bandwidth and is now going to have advertisements in a desperate attempt to stay in bussiness. Disney can't live without more adult content so in Europe there's Star which has a lot of what we find on Hulu in the states. My kid watched Fresh via Disney+ and wondered rightfully WTF ?

We see evidence all the time that this streaming experiment isn't a cash cow like people thought it was going to be.
