Some stuff David Fein has said regarding the SLV: "The shot (with the sound stage exposed) was finished specifically for this release. The original unfinished shot is included as an extra on the disc."

Also: "There’s no unfinished shot in this 4k SLV. There is a new matte, finishing the shot. (The unfinished version is an extra on the disc.)"

I wish they would have corrected the space dock shot too. That would have been all that was needed.

Has anyone seen a listing for the deluxe edition on any Canadian-based retail sites? So far I have found a listing on WOWHD (CAD$120.80), but nowhere else.

I'm finding myself a bit worried about the UK set. I'm in the USA and I'm having doubts that the Blu-rays will be region-free.

They've locked about a dozen titles over the years, mostly TV stuff that are co-productions. I don't think they've ever locked a UK Trek title.

Are there any other soundtracks for this version of the direction's edition? I know there's the 5.1 and 2.0 track on the DVD but I don't think they will sync with the 2022 DE.

It's currently $77.99 at Zavvi. Is it pretty likely that Amazon will have it at that price by release date?

I think with the decline of physical media studios are less likely to produce different packaging for different markets for non standard packaging. It is much easier to just have one identical worldwide release or at least put many different regions together and put some sheets/stickers in the local language on the outside. This is especially true with UHD where they just throw all languages on a single disc, especially for catalogue titles, new releases are often an exception.
Paramount has definitely done this with the recent release of "The Godfather" (the deluxe set only, not the standard release). It is also noticable with their steelbooks, for example "The Ten Commandments" and "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" sold in Germany have only the English title on the Steels themself and the German title on the outer card sheet. I have also noticed this with some Warner steels. Original title and no ratings logos are actually the reason I am warming up more and more to steelbooks.
I expect the UK and German versions of this release to be practically identical. Have preordered with Zavvi for 77 EUR including shipping. Amazon does not list the price in Germany yet.

Just being honest here about the recent announcement of Star Trek The Motion Picture being released as a complete adventure set which includes the special television version in it. I think personally that is stinks that the special television version is included only in the limited complete set.
The special television version should be included in the 4K box set as well as the regular editions of the movie being a single release on 4K. The special television version is in face a total rarity and should be included in those editions.
Don't be like Disney and put everything back in the vault and wait a long long time to release them out in the world again. Limited editions are not everybody's cup of tea. Plus Paramount is not producing a whole lot of them anyways. I'm not paying so much money for stickers!

Heh. Given that it *appears* they’re going to branch the theatrical and SLV, it would’ve been fun to offer the option of viewing the SLV with the finished or unfinished version of that shot, just for a bit of nostalgic fun. That said, this cut’s only been seen before in crappy old pan and scan on NTSC video so presenting it in widescreen 4K Dolby Vision is already drop-kicking the nostalgia out the window.

im talking about this "when it's gone, it's gone forever" business. that's ridiculous.

if there's money to be made, this cut will show up again.

You just need to look at past releases to realise they will be 100% region free and very likely the exact same discs as the US receives.

Likely will be one of those mass produced sets in English with a removable info card with the local language on it.

While I fully expect this to be the only physical release of the SLV, I wonder if it will be released digitally. This is one of the rare occasions when that would probably be good enough for me.

Having said that, I just pre-ordered the Complete Adventure. At least that way, I have options.

Do you even know Paramount and their history on disc?

There are still some big movies on HD/4K disc they have yet to release - Dragonslayer perhaps? They will not spend the money if they don't have to, and the Special Longer Version of the first Star Trek movie is not on their radar. The fact that they're ONLY releasing this as a "bonus" for the deluxe editions should tell you this.

No commercial breaks (upscaled and deinterlaced as they were meant to be seen)? No deal.

I'll wait for them to sort that out for the 60th Anniversary (of ST) Edition in a couple of years and I'll keep my SD renders on DVD thank you very much,
