I decided to place an order for the super deluxe whole shebang edition. I will keep it sealed and then use it to retire with in ten years.

There are still some big movies on HD/4K disc they have yet to release - Dragonslayer perhaps? They will not spend the money if they don't have to, and the Special Longer Version of the first Star Trek movie is not on their radar. The fact that they're ONLY releasing this as a "bonus" for the deluxe editions should tell you this.
alright, what's their email.

The gone forever stuff is from David Fein, who does not speak for Paramount. Nothing prevents Paramount from selling this same 3-disc configuration in a Steelbook next year. Or in some future complete set. Actually, I bet the following happens: Next year, TNG movies get released in a 4K box set. In 2024, they box all 10 movies with all the extras from previous releases.

Not saying that this is about securing a bonus situation but this could be about a bonus situation...
Of course The Journey to the Silver Screen remains exclusive to the 50th Anniversary set so there is precedent.

You guys mind telling me the lottery numbers for tomorrow night's draw then, if you're so confident of the future?

When they re-released the box sets of the Blu-rays, the bonus discs were NOT included.

The 2-disc DVDs are out of print. Want the text pop-ups from the Okudas? Tough luck.

Well, since Star Trek takes place in the 23rd century we know a little bit of the future. Everything that happens in ST is true don't you know

I will fully admit physical media is dying a slow death and a lot of stuff will never see a physical release again. But Star Trek is a cash cow for Paramount. They will milk this thing until they squeeze out every last penny from fans.
Do you really think they'll forego selling one of their biggest movies after they took the time and expense to reconfigure it? I've been following Paramount's model for a long time. They will fleece their customers with a big expensive box of junky stuff. Then the box will drop in price by half or something within the year. Then they'll repackage it.

If you search "Star Trek 1" then filter by 4k, when you see the listing for the 4K Director's Edition it will say there's 2 options. Click on that options button and it should show you the listing for the Complete Adventure.

None of us knows this one way or the other. There are plenty of releases out there that have featured a version or exclusive extra that's never been seen again outside of that single release.

It occurred to me that by Paramount releasing such an expensive set just for the first film they may find that a lot people change their mind before release date.

It's Bond's 60th, they are bound to release some boxset in November and that £60/ $98, people may say you know what I will just get the standard release and keep that money toward Bond as it will go a lot further than 3 cuts of one film.

[Looks at boutique labels releasing films like Alligator in UHD]

Yup, physical media is absolutely dead and barely any films are seeing releases.

Dying doesn't mean dead. "Sales of DVD, Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray discs declined 19.5% to $1.97 billion in the US in 2021 while disc rentals declined 21.2% to $883 million." That's from a high of $17 billion in 2005.

Also, a boutique label that sells 7 copies of Alligator isn't proof of a thriving market. It's simply more evidence that physical media is now a niche category.

I can only imagine how many sales they lose for not investing in a good site search tool.
