Default Pioneer VSX-919AH-K Receiver Thread

Pioneer VSX-919 Receiver

pioneer-vsx-919ah Thread.jpg

Took back the VSX-519 for many reasons after trying it out for one night from Best Buy. Well I ordered the VSX-919 from new egg for a great price, check it out online, dont want to advertise for them on here. Here is Pioneers website to the receiver: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...X-919AH-K.Kuro

How did I do for a first time buyer and for the below components?

How many HDMI inputs does it have,3 ? What does New Egg have it for? It decodes Lossless audio right, or just accept PCM? Does it have pre-outs? Sorry for all the questions, last year the 1018 was the lowest model with all the goodies & I have not kept up with all the newer lower models that are "fully loaded" now...

I'm not sure what all the "red dots" mean under the specification, yes it has that feature or no it does not???

I think you have done a great job Newmason. The receiver you bought looks like a real good performer and better than the one you previously had, and I like Pioneers as well. . But it has all the bells and whistles, including TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding, 3 HDMI inputs, and it kicks out 120 watts per channel, which is very good. It also has the MCACC advanced calibration set-up for your speakers as well. It does not have any pre-outs for any external amplification that would add power/clarity, so if you get upgraditits in the future for an external amp, you would to buy a whole new receiver (this is what I had to do and just did today....bought a new receiver, very $$$$!!!) I say this is a very good "entry" receiver for someone like yourself, and will support and drive your speakers easily..

Now, you need to save a couple hundred or so, and get your self a sub! You are missing out on some of the best parts of the "sound" without one.

Tell me about it Fors, the plan was get the speakers set and all pre-wired, then buy the sub, then the receiver. I have had to kind of flip flop the two because sale prices dont stay around to long on new egg. The PSW10 that I wanted was 119 last week and is now 129 this week! GRRR. It use to be $99 and keeps creeping back up. Oh well, I just hope this receiver works like how I want it to. I dont think it has HDMI passthrough does it? I want to plug my cable box into it through hdmi but dont want to have to turn the unit on to watch tv. That is one huge problem I had with the 519!

I don't think it does, it appears it processes the video signal only.

By the way, with all of this equipment, you'll need a universal remote next, right?

I started with Onkyo but now wish I started with Pioneer! I have the 1019 .. I think the differences are small .. like an extra HDMI port. I love this receiver! It has a few quirky menu/remote configurations but once you get your head around it - not a big deal! It sounds great, looks great, and has a great feature set for the price.

newegg.com run over there now special new arrival price going on for it!!!

Fors, I will totally need a new remote, Harmmony 1 all over it! So if I want to get just audio from my cable box but I want my video to go to my tv, how do I do that? I would be going from the cablebox to the tv HDMI, but what if the game is on? I would like to get surround on that!

Very cool Newmason.....you must be on a first name basis with the driver by now......and getting the last VSX-919 was simply a stroke of luck....

Yeah shear luck is what the guy at newegg said, as I saw that it was backordered and my card was charged so I flipped and had to make sure I wasnt being charged for something that wont be in until the 6th of july! Real question now though, is that this receiver says its a 7 channel. So is it not a true 7.1 with a 1 out-put to a subwoofer availible?

Newmason, yes, it is a 7 channel receiver with a single sub-out. A very good "entry" receiver you picked here.

Well the receiver finally showed up. Opened her all up and was reading through the manual and I just happened to have it sitting in front of me and low and behold, its dented on the top, right where the top place meets the face place! It looks like someone had dropped a box ontop of it right in one spot. This is really unfortionate as the receiver looks beautiful. Honestly its not really that bad, if you are not looking for it or touching the area, you will never notice, but I just so happen to notice it when I unboxed it! I think im going to take the screws out and see if I can re-bend it back alittle, which isnt that big of a deal or enough for me to call newegg and see what they can do... probably nothing, but oh well. Anyways onto the receiver, WOW!!!! this thing is awesome with an onscreen GUI, and included microphone. All you do is plug it in and select a few settings and off to the tests your speakers go. Im so glad I took the 519 back as this is night and day difference! I'm posting a few pictures in my gallery. I have not messed with it enough to figure out all the settings yet, but I will get back to this post with a full review after a few blu's and ps3 games are run! I'm so pumped!!!

So I have a delay when I go from channing the tv from cable to the AVR when I turn the AVR on. Is this normal? here is my sequence. Tv on, PS3, AVR on. I have my ps3 connected to the AVR and the avr hdmi out to the tv. SHould there be much of a delay in the tv setting that wont let the video show up for a few seconds? I would say about 10 or 15 seconds it will finally switch over. Anyone have this problem

Have you tried turning on the AVR first out of the three? I assume you have HDMI hooked up to it and from it to the TV, right?

Also, I had some delay issues with my new Pioneer, and I had to change the setting "Native" to "Off" in my DVR, and this made things quicker. Since you have a Pioneer as well, try this setting in your DVR first, then maybe change the order things comes on.....

I'm save a little money to get this receiver. It looks like a really good one for the money.

This new article might answer the delay questions

fors, I have a time warner cable box, and I dont think I have ever seen a Native setting to turn on or off, but I havent really been on the lookout for it either, and you are right, HDMI for everything, but I dont have my DVR/cable box even plugged into my receiver. I'm not sure whats going on with it if its not a DVR setting. Anything else on the receiver?
