I am huge fan of Network and have quite a few of their releases on both DVD and blu-ray. I'm hoping that they grant the wishes to fans of Dempsey & Makepeace and release this classic 1980's ITV cop show in 1080p or even 2k 100% complete with the LWT river ident at the start and end of each episode, plus 100% UNCUT as the DVD releases were edited as they were more or less the same versions shown on Granada Plus, but with slightly more significant elements to explain the situations in the episodes. Also, a booklet similar to The Professionals releases would be brilliant giving background info on the making of the episodes, plus info about who missed out on the roles in the show.

Dempsey and Makepeace should be 1080i as it was 25fps.

Thankfully Network always stick to the original ration with their TV shows (unless they’re recreating the re-edited films meant for the cinema, but that wouldn’t affect D&M).

Network's release of Animal Farm (1954) is the only Network Blu-ray release I own, I do plan to buy more Network releases in the future. It's a really good release

My Whoops Apocalypse Bluray arrived yesterday - it's long been on my wish list so delighted to have it. The extras really are terrific - the Marshall/Renwick interview extra alone is around an hour long and so jam-packed with information that it performs a similar function to a commentary. They both remember *everything* - I particularly enjoyed Renwick talking us through the list of potential Lacrobat actors.

The print - while it's miles better than anything I've seen before - is still a bit lacking. They've done some work to it but it has an erratic grain pattern that artefacts unpleasantly (though it has also had at least some overaggressive DNR too, so worst of all worlds), quite blotchy colour, a slight bounciness and a good few specks. Weirdly the clips on the extras are much more DNR-ed than the master used so they might have been back and forth with it a few times. Either way all we had before was a letterboxed 4:3 PAL telecine so it's a big upgrade. It's just a weirdly recent film to look so iffy on Bluray. Wilt looked a lot better.

I was a bit disappointed too but I'd say a lot of it is down to the director choosing to use a pro-mist filter throughout. Why on this type of film? That's the realm of romance dramas not an anarchic black comedy. In my mind those filters reduce what you'd expect from 35mm by adding a soft focus look to everything, bleeding the edges of light sources.

I don't mind the cinematography, it's just a rough copy considering it's supposedly an interpositive. I think more could have been done to stabilise the bounce, paint out flaws and restore a consistent grain pattern. Whatever, I am just happy to have such an obscure personal favourite as an upgrade.

The "Ultimate Space: 1999" box says it contains "the feature film versions." Does this, then, contain the films from the earlier "Super Space Theater" set? If so, is there any reason to buy the latter?

Yes, it's everything unlike the earlier complete series set which didn't have the movies or port over extras discs. I'm not a fan of the packaging for the new version though, I've been sticking with my individuals.

If you're talking about the big, hardcover "Filmed In Supermarionation" book (the one in a slipcase) it's pre-packed in a cardboard box with spacers on either side to protect the corners. Network then packed this in their own box. Mine arrived in the States with no damage.
