I've double-featured Just Before Dawn with either The Final Terror or The Prey more times than I can count.
The Final Terror is such an under-appreciated gem. Very unfortunate the OCN is missing.

The Final Terror (1983), Shock Waves (1977), The Hills Have Eyes (1977), and The Last House on the Left (1972) are some of the most tragic OCN misadventures in the horror genre.

Romero's MARTIN, too. There are also questions about the location of DAY OF THE DEAD's negative, apparently.

Oh NO, say it ain't so. Ouch. I always feel this way about ANY lost negative, but that film has some rabid fans that prefer it over Night and Dawn. Sounds like a disaster in the works. I'm more of a Dawn guy, but now I'm more thrilled than ever that I have a couple copies of the Australian blu of Day with the corrected audio.

I think this is what’s being referenced:

Why the hell would the original negative be in South Africa?

Day of the Dead was largely financed by a South African firm. They control the copyright as well as any and all elements relating to DOTD.

Don't forget Curtains (1983). Some imbecile threw away cutting room floor footage like yesterday's trash

THIS. I bet that happened all too often, back in the day. We'd probably freak over all the cool footage from some of our favorite films that got scrapped for a variety of poor reasons, that we don't even know existed.

While I know it could be a very long wait, I'm still thrilled that Synapse landed this title for its 4k release. JBD has some seriously challenging aspects to its PQ, and I'm confident that Synapse will be more than up to the challenge, based on their small but phenomenal existing 4k release history.

The biggest kicker with that was that he threw it away a year before Synapse started work on the film. The Poor guy had stored it for over 20 years and no one was ever interested in it so he decided to throw it out.

The Final Terror is a movie I wish didn’t have a lost original negative, though Scream Factory’s blu ray looks pretty good, for being compiled from different sources.
