What I didn't like the most about this set is that, all the discs from season 1-8 have all black labels. When viewing this set, be careful not to get the discs mixed up because it's very easy to do, by all the discs look identical. Each Season should have their own-colored labels, to differentiate from one season to another.

Crap...I forgot about the stacked disc issue. Looks like I'll be thoroughly inspecting them and doing a GOT marathon to rule out any playback issues. If I encounter any, I'll have Amazon send me a replacement and swap the good for the bad.

For me GOT began to fall apart around season 5. I still enjoy the show overall but it's remarkable how quickly everyone stopped talking about it once season 8 finished which was a mess and utter train wreck.

So say someone only has an issue with 2 of the discs.

Is Amazon going to send a whole new set out, or do you think they will break a set and be able to send the exact discs you need? Didn’t think about that until your post.

Welllllll I had multiple floaters and scratched discs with my Sopranos box set which I ordered from Amazon a while back. They sent me a new sealed set and I swapped the discs and sent back the old one.

Not sure how helpful HBO/WB would be these days if you request replacement discs. I feel like the fastest turn around would be going through the retailer.

There's no denying that there are many elements that could have been done better in the last two seasons, but I think you have to consider that they are the last 15% of the story, or the equivalent of the last hour and half of Return of the King.

The work has been done (well, or otherwise, people are welcome to their opinions on that) in the preceeding six seasons to get to that point. Once Daenerys gets to Westeros, there really is only so long that it is reasonable that the series can have left.

You can't have the hours of sitting round dealing with court intrigue that the first four seasons did so well under those circumstances. Is the shows quality diminished because of it? I would say definitely yes, because the politics and slow-burn plots are what the show did best. The vast majority of the most lauded seasons are taken up by three conspiracies involving a lot of cloak-and-daggers, whilst at the same time the story is building the atomic bomb. At some point the nature of the story was always going to change.

I definitely preferred Sopranos style drama of the early seasons, but with the set up of the initial premise it could never stay like that. The often mentioned dumbing down of dialogue, whilst I have some sympathy with and there was certainly some significant mis-steps at points, was also inevitable when the focus moves away from characters who have lived and learnt "the game" to the new batch of younger characters. You can't suddenly expect Varys/Littlefinger/Tyrion Lannister/Tywin Lannister/Olenna Tyrell quality of dialogue from Jon Snow/Arya Stark/Sansa Stark/etc. It just wouldn't make sense.

I actually loved the whole show S8 aswell honestly haha. However S8 should have gotten at least one stranger things 4 style 2h30m episode and it should have been episode 5 it would have made a world of difference to have fleshed out more time for Dany going off the rails

ST4 is a great example of having lots of shit to get through but doing it right and allowing it time to be told right GOT 8 needed that so badly

Does every season have stacked discs?

I watched a YouTube video, and the guy showed a couple of seasons - both had stacked discs.

I just don’t think I want to deal with that. If I saw correctly, are the actual episodes on 1 disc, and they are underneath the bonus features disc? If so, maybe I could just house the bonus discs in a separate disc binder.

That is a real good deal. Its also the best quality version of Game of Thrones in terms of picture, sound, and extra features. Back on November 3rd 2020 I purchased the Game of Thrones Complete Collection 4K Blu-ray Best Buy steelboook version (out of print). While the Amazon one is not the steelbook version, it has the exact same 33 optical discs that are in the Best Buy steelbook version. Plus you are only paying $99.99 for 33 optical discs. Use to cost $254.99, now on sale for $99.99 for a couple of more hours. The lower quality 1080P Blu-ray version is selling for around $170.

I'm not really a steelbook guy, so this is a-okay with me for the price. I never even got the last season so this is like $50 really for 1-6 replacements.

It just jumped up in price to $194.69 new today. Glad to see you and some other people got the special $99.99 price yesterday. They had a maximum QTY allowed of 2, and Amazon ran out of stock. Now just Amazon dealers selling the brand new boxset between $194.69 to $280.45. Used prices cheaper.

The one negative about steelbooks, is in the very rare scenario that the steelbook case gets damaged. One has to purchase an entire new movie or TV series boxset all over again. 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases that are non-steelbook have blank plastic cases that can be used to replace broken individual movie cases. However when it comes to TV series, some TV series have custom cases, that one needs to buy an entire new boxset to replace the custom cases.

I prefer steelbook cases when only $5 to $10 more in price (unless its like one of my favorite TV series like Game of Thrones which I am willing to pay a lot more). If the steelbook movie is being sold for $100+ and the standard case with the exact same optical discs is being sold for $10-$40, I will buy the standard case.

It's still $99.xx at Gruv with the coupon. I figured I'd go with them to get fresher stock from the source (SDS) rather than hoping that Amazon isn't sending reseals they accumulated from people frankensteining fully working sets together.

Good to know! I was on the fence. Sure enough, I received a gift card from ATT for switching internet. Had I received it yesterday, I might have used it on GOT from Amz.

I may use it towards the Gruv one, not sure.

Good advice though, Tyrok.

Ah damn...I did not know Gruv was at $99 with a coupon. Definitely better off ordering from them. I'll be thoroughly examining my set from AMZ to ensure it wasn't a re-seal.

Don't want a Frankenstein set!

I was surprised Best Buy didn't PM them. Walmart dropped to about $109 but that was it.

I agree though...it was a clever move and I doubt we'll see it go much lower for a good while.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve never ordered from Gruv before, but I missed the Amazon deal and figured I’d take advantage of the coupon.
