ITunes lists the movie for rent on 9/20, so I would hope it means that’s the same day it will be on Paramount+.

I have it and it does. The 4K DV / Atmos is stellar.

A "Rooster" spin-off could be cool, though I'd much prefer a "Phoenix" spin-off, because that's one thing we haven't seen before.

Releasing it later in the year will actually make it MORE likely that some people would wait for Black Friday since you have less time to wait.

I'm certain the price will drop and there will be deals during the holiday sales.

Well, either way people should be happy I guess.

Ukraine Maverick / A walk in the park ...

We're talking a month before Christmas, three weeks before Avatar 2 3D.
Meanwhile to fill an empty hole in September ...
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mo...el-1235204217/

By then Maverick will be straight next below Avatar indeed (domestic).
It won't get there but to sit just below it it's an amazing accomplishment for a fighter jets flick (including the Darkstar jet, based on Lockheed Martin's SR-71).

No confirmed date as of last week per IndieWire. A lot of speculation saying September, possibly October.

Thank you. September/October would make sense as I would at least expect it to hit Paramount's streaming service before the physical release. I'd assume they'd want to maximize subscribers before releasing the actual disc.

I loved the film and I am getting the 4K disc (which comes with the digital) so that's why I am holding off from purchasing the digital just yet - no need for a digital copy double-dip - if I have the discipline, that is! haha

That's why I was curious when it'd come to Paramount+. Thankfully, I saw it more than once in IMAX, so the wait won't be that difficult.

Yeah all their recent stuff has hit P+ prior to physical release so I assume it will be the same for Maverick.

9/20 thru early Oct makes sense as it would give the movie 4-6 weeks prior to the Nov 1 release.

It will be fine. Also, no offence but where have you been? Comic book and big budget action has been dominating the scene for many years.
The industry will work it out, especially with interactive holograms now a possibility. There are several things that can work alongside films at the cinema to further boost income.

The sky is not falling.
The sky is not falling but cinemas need to change and offer an experience to attract customers. Tom Cruise wisely made sure Top Gun Maverick was cinema only for a good while and he was right. I didn't know about holograms though and maybe that will be exciting (reminds me of Back to the Future Part II and that scene with Jaws 19?). The 3D craze has never quite taken despite numerous attempts, and not everyone can sit and watch one - I can't without getting migraines.

You're right about superhero films, however things come and go in cycles. Westerns used to be the superhero films of their time, but they aren't anymore. I don't think superhero films will disappear completely, but tastes change over time when people get bored of the same old thing.
