I tried Google and quick searching but couldn't find out.
A European pressing plant asks for ~1000 € BD50-surcharge for a 2000 units print run (like 0.50€ per disc), and approx ~1350 € BD50-surcharge (like 0.27€ per disc) for a 5000 units print run.
This already includes double AACS-fees for BD50 compared to BD25.

BD25 is quite popular with German anime companies, as the higher disc count allows to use the same premium packaging for DVD and Blu-ray versions - the final product gets a sticker or paper sheet (J-card) to show which version is included.

Fusé: Memoirs of the Hunter Girl - Discotek Media BD vs Kadokawa BD

Comparison (Expires on August 27 2024)

Discotek Media BD

Kadokawa BD

The presentation on the Discotek Media release is good. Looks similar to the Kadokawa release.

As mentioned before: the NISA BD doesn't seem to have a color space conversion problem. If you already own the NISA BD, then the Discotek Media BD is perhaps not worth picking up.

Any info on whether Sentai's LE Vinland BD or UK mvm version is using BD footage instead of broadcast?

Just a quick one - the Japanese BD of Paripi Koumei (or Ya Boy Kongming) is a steaming pile of poo, with near constant banding and/or blocking.
Sadly this seems to be a very common thing with P.A.Works titles these days.

A bitrate viewer scan for episode 1 reveals a suspicious bitrate graph...

Remuxing to an MKV confirms that the disc author pulled a Viz on this one. Never expected to see this behaviour pulled for a Japanese release.

Though distributed via Avex Pictures, DMM Pictures produced the Blu-ray release. No wonder that it looks so awful.

That makes a lot of sense. Probably means Sentai's eventual BD will be at least marginally better at worst.

That is a shame to hear.

Has anyone heard anything about the US 4K Belle vs the UK one?

Or if the standard BD for Belle is any diff on the CE set?

I wouldn't bother with the NA release when the UK is so solid (the BD is fantastic, but obviously limited due to how visually complex the film vs format/bitrate limitations, and the UHD's encode is practically flawless). Unless you really want the dub in Atmos, I see no reason to get the GKids release.

[Show spoiler](Hopefully their UHD is good, and better yet, hopefully a clone of VDMS' encode, but knowing how Shout and Duplitech still fail to grasp UHD encoding even at ridiculously high bitrates, it wasn't worth risking it in my eyes)

I forgot to post about this before but the Lupin III pilots' HD remasters were recently uploaded to Amazon JP by WOWOW, and as expected they look amazing and destroy the ancient trashy 1989 telecine

I really wish this would get a BD release anywhere (They haven't been available on BD even in Japan!)
Would love to see these at non-streaming encoding settings

As long as the bitrate can be comfortably high enough, as a collector I'd never want an unnecessary BD-50. Had several Criterion releases where the first layer was fine but the second rotted and became unplayable.

Not exactly a common issue, but I'd still be slightly paranoid about expensive/rare discs.

If you know what you're doing with bitrate and size you can work some magic. FiM's 14GB El Topo encode is proof of such, though it's probably not fair to use them as an example cuz they're so good.

Was it ever confirmed if the Sentai Vinland Saga LE fixed the discs or are they the same?

Nope. Telltale sign though would be the copyright year on the disc credits screen and ending credits, they'll probably say 2021 indicating same discs.

Easiest thing would be to check if the dimming and ghosting is present in the OP.
Alternatively, does anyone have HiDive and can check what version that uses? If that's also broadcast then I would assume the disc still is.

I doubt that the description on HiDive is reliable.

Example of dimming:

German BD

Japanese BD

Just watched through the OP on HiDive stream marked as Home Video version. I can confirm there's still dimming.
