Shout's recent Halloween UHD uses a filtered mono track. There was a lot of discussion about that and comparing it to the laserdisc mono. On it's own it seems to sound good enough, but compared to the laserdisc, it definitely sounds like some filtering was applied that gives it a "muffled" sound.

That it's taken this long for people to even notice is telling I think. For other examples like The Avengers, I noticed that excessive boominess to the low end as soon as I fired up the disc without even having to compare to older editions (of which the Studiocanal 2009 or so remasters are noise reduced to the level of anaemic). The 90s transfers of that series still have the best overall audio, it's just a shame about the pictures that go with them so I'm still going to stick with the Studiocanal remasters when it comes to actually watching them.

Yes, that's exactly what it says in the book. As I said, I might be getting it mixed up with something else but I'm sure I can remember reading something about a rebuild from audio elements. Unless that was just the newer 5.1. Geoff, you're needed to tell me if I'm talking crap or not.
As far as the LP comparison, CDs are fully capable of delivering the entire spectrum of sound an LP can. There's nothing an LP can reproduce that a CD can't too. I'm a vinyl fan myself but I realize those that prefer the sound of LP is more to do with placebo than any actual benefit. LPs are inferior.

No rebuilds I'm aware of! Just the existing 5.1, a 2.0 and the OG mono transferred from optical (and then mastered in whichever way).

This is supposed to guarantee at least that it won't just ship with a label right on the product itself, and if there's any damage you can always justify the return to them as it being intended as a gift and it's in unacceptable gift condition.
That's strange. Every single time that I have paid for gift wrapping at Amazon the item was shipped in a box. I have been using this method for many years without fail.

Still doesn't entirely prevent the enraged Orangutans at UPS from destroying my stuff, but it improves the odds of survival.

I immediately switched my orders to Amazon UK upon hearing about them no longer shipping orders internationally, so I still ended up with the lovely LEs in the end.

As usual with Amazon I think it's a matter of who's packing your particular order. After years of shopping with them, I'm convinced they follow no set guidelines. I could order the same thing twice the same way and one would arrive in a box and one would arrive in a bag or envelope.

This is precisely what I did when ordering the limited edition from Second Sight. Of course it added something like $40 extra to the final cost but my copy arrived in Los Angeles lightning fast and utterly pristine, complete with the exclusive art cards.

For the most part I consider forwarding services to be an emergency-only option but I wasn’t about to risk having (IMO) the finest UHD release of that year arrive damaged from Amazon. No regrets.

Why are you keeping tally? Is this 3 cut edition going OOP?

I have the box with the CDs, though I would move to the smaller set in a heartbeat if there were a way to get the CDs separately. Soundtrack yes, but not the two discs of cues. I keep looking.

Keeping tally because it sells out until more are available. It goes pretty quick.

That is a strange business model. If they are selling out then SS should press more so the other distributors can order larger quantities.

You do know that is what Second Sight is doing, right? They're obviously having new copies pressed as resources allow. That takes time and it takes time for stores to get them over here. If they run out they're at the mercy of distributors and production bottlenecks. It doesn't help that this title in particular has a no-export "flag" on it and multiple places over there won't ship here. There wasn't ever a single pressing of them and they're not being made to order either if that's what you think I meant lol

Quake1028 posted 3 different companies in the U.S. that offer this release. If they are selling out so quickly then they should order more copies. I thought this was pretty straightforward.

Since this isn't suppose to be sold outside of the UK, we don't know how these companies are getting them which might be why they have limited stock. They might be only able order small quantities at a time.

It is possible these companies have a relationship with SS to order them direct that regular customers can't. Though if that is true, you would expect them to be able to order larger quantities but that doesn't seem to be the case.

It is straightforward, they order as much as they can at any given time either in their own power or what's available. If their source only has 500 copies and they can only get 100 then it is what it is. If they can get all 500 then it is what it is. And that's even if 500 are available at any given time. There's likely far less. They order when they can when possible. When you got three retailers effectively competing that's how it is. Another thing to consider is lead times on production too. This stuff doesn't take a day or two or a week at a time. Mountain out of a molehill, economics, etc.

I am so glad that I bought the Limited Edition when it first went up. It is still one of my favourite limited edition sets I own (from the packaging/artwork/tat, to the film/audio presentations). I may watch the Argento Cut soon, as I still have not seen that version.

I hope that they give the same treatment for Day Of The Dead as well.
