Have you thought about the https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u8h?
Hisense or TCL is out of the question. I just don't have trust in those brands as of yet.

But you're right, very hard to find the "perfect" TV. After taking a look at PC Richards today, my decision has changed to the Samsung QN90B. It crushes the Sony XR55X90K in every way possible. It had the most amazing picture quality I've ever seen. Beautiful contrast and colors and very deep, inky blacks. I have to... just have to save up and get that. There's no ifs, ands, or buts.

Hisense is one of the only TVs you can buy that supports literally everything. The big three, Sony/LG/Samsung, each choose one video or audio format over the other. Sony and LG don't do HDR 10+. And Samsung doesn't do Dolby Vision. But a good player, like the Panasonic 820, has picture options to greatly enhance the image quality without Dolby Vision. None of the big three support DTS passthrough. Which forces you to go through a soundbar or receiver first to get it. The Hisense supports HDR 10, HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision. It also allows DTS passthrough. It is the swiss army knife of TVs right now. You could go with that for now and upgrade to micro LED when that is available and cheaper. The Hisense he linked to is a very well rated TV. And it's cheaper. Did you follow the link? Rtings is raving about it. I've owned Sony, LG and Samsung. But if I was looking right now, that would be THE TV that interested me most.

It's a shame the Euro models don't match the specs, otherwise it would be well worth consideration.

I’m sorry but cheapo TVs like Hisense and TCLs are simply out of the question. If too good to be true TVs are THAT cheap, I sense there must be a lack of quality control. So it will be a complete crapshoot in what I get.

Unless you're buying a model from a brands' first or second tier range, you're more or less buying a cheap TV with a logo and there's usually a premium for that logo.

Which is something you've done with your current display, you trusted the brand over the TV. Yes, the big names make quality products, but someone like TCL (if I recall) can charge less because they make everything themselves.

No matter what you buy there's going to be a certain amount of panel lottery at play, just buy from someone with a decent returns policy.

Well when it comes to features, I admit, Hisense offers more bang for the buck. But I'm talking quality control and durability. My current TV is lacking in the specs, but it's well built and is lasting me a long time. In fact, all my Sony electronics I've owned lasted me YEARS and YEARS. Have people attested that Hisense electronics are built to last?

Sure, maybe that Hisense U8H might be great, but will it still work in a couple of years?

In fact, after a quick glance at the Amazon reviews, here's one that didn't take long to find...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-r...SIN=B0B5YZNZTZ

Keep in mind, Rtings rates things based on specs. They don't test for durability and quality control. Samsung, Sony and LG have a reputation to maintain, so their main purpose is to strive for quality. That's how they keep that logo expensive.

Plenty of horror stories above, one chap had a permanent spider on the screen! There's always a risk with electronics, make sure you open them straightaway and you have a warranty from a company you know that will honour it.

A companies reputation is usually anecdotally based, one or two and experiences and they quickly become tarnishes, from experience with people on-line, Samsung have a poor reputation in the US compared to Europe. I know folks that wouldn't take an LG display for free! Sony seem to have their ups and down, they're a bit like Mercedes-Benz, stellar reputation for years before they started to let things slip (I think they've improved a bit since their decline).

Yeah, in all honesty, I think quality control, in general, has slipped since the pandemic. So any TV I buy at this point will be a crapshoot in terms of durability. And it kind of makes me wonder right now if it's even worth it to fix what's not broken.
