don’t think people who watched it for free saying it was bad is going to affect the box office. horror movies and franchises are magically critic proof, but this is the one that people act like reviews matter?
sure. ok. if it doesn’t have legs, it’s because those have been cut off by having this on peacock st the same time. who is going to see it multiple times when you can watch it again at home? chris landon said it right. |

The movie — the final in the trilogy returning Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode — opened to $41.2 million from 3,901 theaters, the lowest of the three films. Heading into the weekend, Hallloween Ends was expected to open in the same range as Halloween Kills, or $50 million.
Overseas, it scared up $17.7 million for a global start of $58.4 million. $40 million was more than enough to win the weekend domestically for Universal, Miramax and Blumhouse. It is only the twelfth film of 2022 so far to open to $40 million or more. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mo...0f0740c6f56c40 Director Chinonye Chukwu’s acclaimed drama Till, starring Danielle Deadwyler as the mother a young Black boy who is lynched in the Jim Crow South, is opening in 16 locations. The film, from MGM and UAR, is looking at a promising per-location average of $15,000. |

I'm sure streaming is hurting it's box office some, but it's still over an $8M drop from Halloween Kills opening weekend, which also was day and date on Peacock. I'd say the reason for the drop is that many thought Halloween Kills sucked, and this one has gotten even worse word of mouth.

$60 million already puts it in top half in terms of highest grossing in the franchise. (Unadjusted for inflation, naturally, but still.) Not bad for what is the 13th film of a franchise.
But even just factoring in the Blumhouse films as their own separate horror trilogy, the third film in most of of them is usually the lowest grossing of the three. |

I think most horror movies are front loaded anyways where most of the BO is made that opening weekend. And yes there are exceptions of course but even you name brand horror franchise do most of their business in that first weekend, maybe their second weekend too And since the Halloween 2018 made so much $$$ and the production budgets on Kills and End were both under 20 million or so (could be wrong on those figures) that they didnt need to kill the box office on those to make a profit that they could put on Peacock for content purposes |
