its the same in every country, 10 years ago politics were mentioned only in its specific setting and didn't pollute every single topic of conversation. Thankfully this only happens online to me. My friends and family rarely talk about politics, but I get online and even in football (soccer) or movie forums like this, you only get a certain type of person who will analyze everything you say through his particular ideologic lense, never focusing on the topic but on its politics.

In this forum happens almost all the time and its getting worse. this thread is a great example, there are absolute lunatics in here.

I mean I think you could argue that Hollywood itself has contributed to it, not due to these conspiracy theories being true(if anything I think blockbusters actually have less political substance now than they did in say the 80's) but rather deliberately playing into that enviroment, making and promoting films in such a way as to rattle the cages of such people to play up product as significant.

You look at forums like this though and I think its pretty clearly almost all one direction politically, as much as some people rage against them there really are very few "woke snowflakes" here who view everything though the prism of whether its on "their side" or not. On the other side though I think theres a growing tide of people who are clearly obcessed with the conservative perspective on this and its meaning a lot of subjects are becoming an absolute disaster, terrible dishonest discussion thats just not interesting at all.

Hollywood has always had that copycat thing going on. If it works once do it again. The only thing they do not like is apathy.

I have almost the exact opposite view, but Im trying to avoid politically charged threads, my health is not great and it annoys me so many double standards

I have been accused here of trumpist and far right and all kinds of lunacy just because I dont agree with the woke agenda, and then Ive been accused of snowflake by the conservative side, so I can't win.

Personally I think both sides are equally bad in here and in general. People in the middle with real opinions can't win.

Thats not really what I'm seeing on these forums, I think you have some posters who are big fans of a certain franchise and will cut it excessive slack as a result but I don't really see many people who are determinate to love(or hate) something based purely on liberial politics were as I see plenty of posters who seem governed almost totally by conservative politics.

we're certainly not going to agree on that

perhaps in one thing we could agree is that objectivity is the sore loser in all these discussions of the modern world. You can't be objective anymore because you're always alienating one of the 2 crazy sides. I see this everyday in every aspect of life. When you try to be objective you're accused of woke or alt right. As a person whos always tried to be fair this displeases me quite a bit, more so when I am in a movies forum and I want to talk about movies, and not about "agendas" and other nonsense.

anyway this thread is toxic, always has been because certain people cannot accept unpopular opinions if they go against their political belief, even if theres no political attempt from the original poster.

Honestly though is casting a black dwarf in a fantasy setting really THAT horrible? it seems what makes it so to some people is that they view it though a waped political perspective.

Theres a difference between disgreement on quality we've had in the past and whats happening now. Some people just responding to dog whistle politics and whining online endlessly rather than actually talking about why they dislike something honestly leading to a discussion thats worth having.

I'v bailed on the Rings of Power thread here for example because I think theres just no decent honest discussion to be had in it due to this. Tried to generate some several times(not all of it positive) and was greeted with the same simplistic obviously politically based nonsense so gave up. This kind of thing is a cancer to these boards and will help kill them IMHO, people whop actually want to talk about the real merits of films/shows will go elsewhere.

smart people... I was raised at a time where it was instilled in me to NEVER talk about things like that.... there clearly was a reason.

I applaud you for that. Though I must say it can be hard to just focus on the movie when an agenda may be built into the script. Say, if there's a social point you reject that the writer is attempting to hammer in, of course you're going to check out.

I'm watching the Knicks-Grizzlies game right now and yeah. Not digging the bench players with their Free Brittney Griner hoodies, but ts not taking away from the really exciting finish. Now, if you paint it on the court, I might just tune out completely.

Eh, awkward profanity was dropped in the trailer, lame and gauche. Some people can swear as an art form, most people cannot.

If you're going to put profanity in a film, you need actors who can deliver it, like the gents who played the two fruits in Bullet Train
