Recently saw Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005) - first time viewing: Amusing & action packed neo-noir?! (though it barely fits into that category), and a very scathing & insightful condemnation on the shallowness of L.A. culture - particularly the entertainment industry. Well-done.

Now is a great time to see this, due to the Christmas-time setting. Also, this connects it somewhat to The Long Kiss Goodnight - which was another action film set during the holidays.

Actually, Christmas is a good time to watch any movie written by Shane Black.

Great film! Shane Black loves giving all of his films the Christmas backdrop!

After watching this a few times over the last few years, I would put it in my top 10 or 20 favorite films of all time. It's really funny and I LOVE the characters and it just blazes along. The only thing at all that's lacking for me is
[Show spoiler]I'm a sap and thus wanted an ending with Michelle Monaghan involved
, but I know that's just personal preferences and it's fine as is. I think this is probably the most recent addition to my favorite movies, I get entrenched with stuff that I saw when I was young filling up much of the list, but this one broke in there.

It's too bad that The Nice Guys didn't come anywhere close to recapturing the lightning in a bottle here. Ah well. I wish Shane Black had done more in the same vein instead of PREDATOR. Weirdly enough, Iron Man 3 really does recapture some of the energy thanks to the reunion with RDJ. That movie has some big problems, especially the climax, but all the Shane Black-y stuff was great, especially everything with the kid.

Was KKBB ever part of a WB triple pack?

Thought it was but I can find any record of that now, the single-layer release is a bit pricey.

This film could use a complete overhaul of a blu-ray with a dual layer AVC encoding and lossless audio.

Love this movie (and pretty much everything else of Shane Black's). Always find a way to get Kiss Kiss Bang Bang on around Christmas time

Wrestling with picking this up. My wife and I watch it every Xmas and have been doing so on a DVD for the last 10 years. I want to upgrade, but this Blu is ancient and always like $15. Plus, I’m trying my darndest not to buy BD anymore. Anyone think this gets upgraded to UHD at some point?

This really is a terrific movie. It deserves a UHD.

You won't buy BD but you'll suffer through a DVD?

No. This isn't going to get an upgrade anytime soon.

I don't get why people deny themselves the pleasure of a movie hoping for the next upgrade. KKBB is not very likely to get a 4K upgrade, and the existing Blu looks fine (and you could find it cheap on eBay or in a thrift shop).

I already own the DVD. I'd be super annoyed to buy a $15 BD from 2006 only to see the UHD come out. Also, I never said I won't buy the BD. I specifically said I was considering buying it.

I have a lot of DVDs in my collection that should be BDs. I'm not trying to repeat history if I can avoid it. And I own the DVD of this movie, so I'm not denying myself the pleasure of watching it.

You're safe buying the BD

- Warner has done very few catalog titles on UHD
- the movie has a small and devoted cult following, but it was a financial flop, so it's probably very low on their list of potential titles to do on UHD, even if they ever do ramp up their catalog output

Played this tonight. Didn't know it was a Christmas movie. Interesting coincidence.

The disc is HD DVD. An import, single-sided. DD+ 5.1.

Only other movie I've ever had to replace from watching it so many times is Die Hard.

I'd love for at least a 4K remaster on standard Blu from Shout or WA.

A lot of Shane Black movies are Christmas themed.

I would buy this as a 4K UHD upgrade in less than a nanosecond. It feels and has always felt as if I made it in a parallel universe or something. Easily the purest Shane Black experience there is, my favorite thing RDJ has ever done, one of the films that BEGGED for a sequel and a simple Warner disc release that needs an upgrade.

Yes, a guilty pleasure that I'd LOVE to see on 4K. Hell, I'd accept a new Blu-ray from a boutique label. GREAT movie!! Runs the gamut of emotions.
