Are you referring to the disc, or the steelbook, please?
I'm referring to the new steel book edition.

The 25th is on sale for $9.99 so I am tempted.

Love this movie and looking for an upgrade- I remember the Blu Ray looked terrible- soft and way too dark. One of the few movies I always just reached for the DVD instead.
The reviews I’ve read both transfers are excellent. The 30th anniversary has Dolby Vision and maaaye looks incrementally better although I’d bet most of us wouldn’t be able to tell unless they’re side by side. Same audio track on both releases just more versions of the track on the 30th. I don’t care about subtitle font, I don’t use subtitles since it’s not a foreign language film. I bought the 25th anniversary and saved $20.

BTW we're not talking about the common subtitles, we're talking about the in-film moments where a different language is used and the filmmakers employed a stylised font to subtitle those moments for us. Old disc uses a poorer quality film source for those moments (including the entire first 10 minutes of the film) while the new disc uses the original burnt-in subtitles which not only has the stylised text but the source itself plain looks higher quality than the concurrent moments on the old disc.

You'll say that you still don't give a shit and hey, that's fine, you've got that $20 pocketed for another day, but worth correcting/pointing out anyway in case it's worth it to someone else.

Endlessly amused at these woodwork emerging folks who have to let everyone know in at least a paragraph why upgrade disc is totally not worth it and other various it's-a-waste-fanboys-only-need-apply musings. Add in weird personal comments that have 50/50 chance of ending up in sexual territory for whatever reason and it reads like bummed-out cope of the too-online really really fast! The forever circus.

Gotcha, I just compared to my digital copy. I guess I won’t loose sleep over the subtitle font being different for a few seconds of the movie’s runtime. If the steelbook drops to $10 sometime in the future I’ll buy it again (sell the 25th edition) and it’ll still be less $ spent than the current asking price.

To date, it’s been both. That includes the other variant packaging and box sets too (i.e. Labyrinth, Karate Kid Collection, Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection). Once these DV rereleases sell out, they haven’t been printing any more.

Oh, I know you're referring to the steel book, but was that other commenter referring to it regarding the availability?

Oh, wow. You're right. I recall being bummed about that Ghostbusters set.

The entire first five minutes of the film are in Romanian, however. It's not just a few seconds. All the subtitles for that portion of the film are intended to be in a very specific old-timey subtitle font that was chosen by Coppola as part of the artistic intent of the film. They have an enormous impact on the tone of that opening prologue sequence, because they reinforce the fact that it's a heightened, stylized, romanticized world.

Their replacement with modern, blocky, white, player-generated subtitles has a noticeable impact on the sequence, in the opinion of many of the film's fans.

It's true, they don't run throughout the film, but it's important to note that it's more than just a subtitle or two lasting for a couple of seconds.

Was going to watch my 25th anniversary yesterday, but Target dropped the B2G1, and they had the steelbook, now time to return the other one to BB.

Ok lol, I watched the movie and fair enough. I bought the steelbook from Target as part of the BOGO sell. I already opened the standard 4k I bought last week so I’ll probably see if I can sell the steelbook case down the road to recoup cost. In the end I paid approximately as much for both copies than if I had just paid full price for the steel.
