‘The Menu is a stupid movie’. No explanation, no nuance. Is this clown being paid money for his opinion?

Based on what I'm reading, I'm gonna have to watch this soon. I have no damn clue what it's about even from the trailers and official description and that sounds like the best way to go in before I have it spoiled somehow.

Having Roger Ebert be your go-to critic is such a base cinephile move. There’s like thousands of critics that have plenty of interesting takes.

When you make a movie with an attitude as high-and-mighty as this one, it has to be extra good to account for the condescension. This wasn't good at all, from the stereotype characters to the horribly underimagined ending.

When the credits rolled and I saw Adam McKay's name with a producer credit, I thought 'now this adds up'.

I just find that it is not a thought-provoking movie AT ALL, unfortunately it's all attitude and nothing of any substance

That's kind of it in a nutshell. People will have varying opinions on Ebert and many other critics, but Maltin has always been universally seen as a clown in the industry. He's kind of leaned into it over the years.

I don't think this was meant to be thought-provoking. For me, it was just a satisfying popcorn movie cleverly supplanting the popcorn with something more substantial.

The lines between hero and villain were blurred, car chases and explosions were forgone in favour of more subtle tensions and it was beautifully shot. The humour deftly walked the line between clever and absurd.

It's not a classic. It's not life changing or make anyone's top 10 list of all time. It certainly was not stupid. IMHO, it is worthy of a rewatch in both the short and long runs. I'll stream it again soon and will add it to my collection if a UHD is offered.

When I read Maltin's take on the movie, it was hands down the funniest thing I had read so far this year. But the reactions to his take are absolutely 1,000 funnier.

HAHA... When I read this post, my first reaction was -OK, this guy is just REALLY easily amused... but then I realized that it's only been 7 days and you may not have ventured out yet.

So today has been a bit of a foodie day in my household.

My wife is a vegetarian which means that my kids get a little excited when we have a rare day like today when we are all off and I can cook. My son got up earlier than he would normally on a Saturday to accompany me down to Toronto's St Lawerence Market where he picked out a rib roast he wanted for dinner.

My daughter has kept my wife out of the kitchen this afternoon while I prepped the carcass by marathoning THE FOOD NETWORK. I just sat down to join them after getting stuff in the oven. Something pretentious just happened on the show and my daughter just turned to me and exclaimed - TYLER'S BULLSHIT!... We laughed hysterically as my wife is left wondering who the hell Tyler is on the show...
