Yes that is also set correctly. Again it's baffling and I just need a different player so it will work.

I would bet it's your TV, not the player. Strange things happen with my secondary TCL all the time. This will be my last TCL display. If you need a cheap one and cannot afford something like an LG or Sony OLED, the Hisense U8H is a better model than the TCL's. |

Instead of looking to change out your great uhd player, maybe you should be looking to change your TV to an OLED instead. They are so affordable now compared to a few years ago. Sales do pop up a lot from time to time.

![]() A firmware update took care of that. However, some were confusing 24 fps movie friendly settings with motion enhancement that creates a Soap Opera Effect. Some think the SOE is a good thing... however, it couldn't be further from the truth. |

So you are saying I can get decent motion without SOE?

The reason why I don't think it's player-based is that if I take my player (the 9000) that is on the TV with the glitch and move it to a different series of TCL TV, then there are no problems with any Dolby Vision content or anything at all. And if I then take my 820 that is normally hooked up to that other TCL...and move it to the TCL 75-inch that has the glitch, then I do get the glitch. This means that the glitch is in that particular TV model's software and is not tied to the player. |

One more thing to try...although you may have already done this: What happens when you turn off Dolby Vision in your disc player and instead have it output HDR only? For me, on discs where the glitch has shown up, the TV has no problem displaying everything correctly if I simply pop the output to standard HDR. I don't typically do this, though, as the glitch for me generally only impacts the menus and I can still generally make out the selections when it happens.

And I know it's a problem with the TCL but im betting it's only with Panasonic Players. Another brand player probably would fix the issue but I have decided to take the advice here and get the Hisense U8H. Last edited by PuppetMasterBlu; 01-07-2023 at 10:00 AM. |

CES 2023 has released the OLED wars. MLAOLED vs QDOLED. We are seeing the new OLED's from Samsung and LG hitting upto 2100 nits now. Will Panasonic update their HDR Optimiser as it maxes to 1500 nits for Super LED TV's(OLED capped at 1000 nits)?
It would be nice if they give us a feature where we could enter the min and max nits depending of the flavour of the TV and based on those numbers the HDR Optimiser does its thing |

Consoles are so customizable now, I think it's almost ingrained in consumers to adjust things for performance. But if your display is hitting 2,000 nits, you're not going to need the Optimizer that much. Also I mentioned the LG's HDR Signaling Override (which I think could cap incoming signals) menu the other day and went to find some more stuff on it, unfortunately I stumbled upon a YouTube response video and my I.Q. took a hit I couldn't afford. |

Or you could just let the entirely-capable (and faster, newer, higher-end) SoC in the TV, which intimately knows the TVs capabilities, do all the tone-mapping instead and not bother with source-level tone-mapping for movies.

People that keep parroting the 2000+ nits figure for QD OLED without the caveat of how that was measured is getting really quite prevalent. That was the out of box uncalibrated colour temperature (9500K? or so).
Once it was pegged to D65 white point the peak nits for 10% is 1500 or so. 2100 is just show off numbers kind of like a demo/vivid showcase implementation. |

And this is apparently after being calibrated. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming...nded_settings/, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...-n5qkN/pubhtml Do note that these are most likely calculated guesses, as nobody actually has them yet. I can't believe it, but Reddit of all places has the best settings for calibrating LG OLED TVs. Too bad they don't have any calibration settings for other brands yet. |

I've got a LG OLEDBX and Samsung QN94a. BX maxes at 600-700 nits at some size window and QN94a maxes at 1500-1650nits. The tone mapping of the BX is very good compared to my QN94a. Movies like the US BR2049 tone maps properly with or without HDR optimiser on the BX. When I play the same movie on the QN94a, the Samsung makes the movie go brighter with or without HDR Optimiser (Geoff D commented on this and on another 10000 nit mastering discussion stated that the mastering display numbers entered is an error; this is the long and short of the discussions) There are no new 4k Blu ray players announced and literally UB820/9000 are one of the best. My comment is mainly about the fact it would be nice that the HDR Optimiser needs to be updated to the times. A new option should be added where one can enter the number of nits based on the Rtings page. That's all |

I got the 9000 on sale during the Christmas discount season. It took me until last night to completely set it up and connect it to the home network, etc. When I tried to do an update, it said the software version was up to date, which I guess is possible but I found hard to believe. I was trying to watch it witt try h audio going through the home theater receiver but video directly to HDMI 4, but I wasn’t getting any sound, so had to reconnect it to the main video out that includes sound. May experiment later but that said Gladiator, which one of the nephews wanted to see, looked and sounded great. The dogs barking in the surround sounds upset the new puppy, but she finally calmed down. She has made it through Ben-Hur and Gone with the Wind, so she’s already a pro.
