Tom Cruise would look a lot better if he didn't dye his hair. The humans involved in the production seemed to wanna show that he was old, as part of the story, but for some reason his hair is still off limits. It makes the character look vain. Every few years it looks weirder. Contrast that with Val Kilmer in the same movie, who accepts the grey, like a man.

Couple of very cool shots.
Top Gun: Maverick definitely wasn't written by AI. One of the most sincere and human blockbusters to have come out in the past years.

So the Golden Globes went with The Fablemans...FAIL

Guess they're still mad at Tom for returning his Golden Globes.

I think Awards shows are still too politicized to care about nominating/rewarding the most deserving films. I guess one could say that goes back forever, but for me it seems like it happens more often than not today. I haven't watched an awards show in over 3yrs now, it used to be something I looked forward to, but I've moved on. Top Gun: Maverick was the best movie of 2022 bar none! I don't need an award (nor does Tom Cruise) to tell me what I already know.

Yes, they give their awards to the shows/movies they feel are more "deserving" - inherently a subjective consideration.

Top Gun is a great movie but it wasn’t even in my top 5 movies of the year.

Can’t speak highly enough of Maverick. Left me on a high coming out of the cinema and I’m delighted to have the 4K disc. Cruise is a gift to film lovers.

Joint best film of the year with Aftersun, Batman gets the next slot.

Better writing too.

I mean, Maverick is nothing exceptional writing-wise but is actually competent unlike the original.
When watching the original I was frankly surprised how many "serious" scenes felt like they were lifted from Hot Shots.
But then again without that stupidity we might not have gotten Hot Shots.

Yep there is a Marvel movie in there and a DC movie.

1. Pinocchio
2. The Batman
3. The Menu
4. Everything Everywhere at Once
5. Wakanda Forever
6. Top Gun: Maverick

I’ve seen movies that are probably better but these are the movies I’ve rewatched and can see myself rewatching years from now. This is more a ‘favourite’ list. There are movies that maybe I appreciate more from a technical standpoint like Nope (for example) but I don’t know how many times I will rewatch so can’t really call it a favourite. If I did a ‘best’ list the top 5 would probably change again.

I love Top Gun, always have, but yes: my mind often confuses it for Hot Shots!

The 4K disc of this film is a thing of beauty. Already watched it three times. Atmos track is top notch.

Maverick to me is head and shoulders above the original. Maverick is a proper action film. Top Gun (1986) feels like a romance film with fighter jets tacked-on.

LOL - it was a 2 hour advertisement for Navy recruitment. And boy did it work. Recruitment after the film came out was up like 500%
