I think tale based on religious writings... It clearly tells you because if you notice the drawing of Ezekiel's Wheel... and not just that, the character's have biblical names, such as Caleb and John... and the "rapture" is so much like what happens in the end of the movie, but of course, you can't actually take out a true biblical movie now with Hollywood, so you have to put 50/50 for the viewers, making some think, that it is aliens... And also, almost at the end, when Nicholas Cage is driving to his parent's house, there is a van with a sign that says "Jesus is thee way, truth & life".... I could keep on trust me lol... but if you want to know more, just let me know and ask and I will gladly answer.

How about:

The aliens dropped off kids LONG ago on planet "earth." After perhaps another rescue mission. Those kids described what they thought happened and with the whispering into ears throughout the years- these stories become all religious history.

Then the aliens(recognized now as "angels") come back and have to do a rescue again.

Even though this seems like a cold interpretation- consider: who are the aliens? Why do they care? How do they know? (science maybe on this one) And the kicker- Where do they come from?

Brings me to my head-scratcher: Is the future "knowing" needed? and why?

the aliens... as you and other people think the four strangers are... in my opinion, those are the "4 Living Creatures" the bible talks about that guards Heaven... when they taking the kids up in the air, you can notice they are not the only ones that have been taken from Earth, but there are others. Now... the movie doesn't shows us if its only kids or adults & kids.... They have been "raptured" from the destruction just like in Revelations and other books in the bible talks about.... when they are in the new place, and you can see the Tree of Life in the middle of it... some people think it is Eden where Adam & Eve were in the beginning of creation, it is not true. In Revelations it talks about that God makes everything new, and after He destroys the Earth, there will be a new Jerusalem where the "saved", "His people" will be, and the Tree of Life will also be in that "New Jerusalem"... also notice something else... the kids are not wearing their clothes that they were taken with... they are wearing a white clothing, which is also in the Bible, it talks that God will clothe His people with white clothing.... another thing, you might ask, what about the black rocks?... those rocks, I'm pretty sure it is not in the bible, they do talk about that God will give us new names written on a white rock... But anyways, those rocks were only given to the "saved". About the voices, I think that's just something the director made up to make the movie look more interesting.

WOW

Could all of those details have been recorded by the people dropped of on this planet long ago? In theory, those kids had to be saved from a different doomed planet by perhaps the exact same beings.

Chicken before the egg before the chicken.

A series or rescues that only have observations though many generations to describe them.

*** Safe to say there is more to the movie then most thought.

Well you are focusing on not a Biblical point of view, but more of alien point of view. Right?

I'm agnostic.

"Open to the possibility but undecided due to lack of supporting evidence."

At the moment, I'm trying to figure out if it's an alien or religion movie- or if it's simply not that simple

I prefer the third.
