Information on where the US Pioneer Plasma screen models were made

Also updated information on where the Pioneer Table Top Stands and Wall Mounts are made

(Some of the stands are made in Japan and others in China)

The Pioneer 9th generation plasma screens including the Elite Signature Series PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD were 100% engineered in Japan. The USA Pioneer plasma models were assembled in the United States using both USA and imported parts. Now when it comes to the Pioneer stands that were designed for the Elite Signature series, only the KRP-TS01 60 inch PRO-141FD table top stand was made in China. The KRP-TS02 50 inch PRO-101FD table top stand was made in Japan. Also the KRP-WM01 60 inch PRO-141FD wall mount and KRP-WM02 50 inch PRO-101FD wall mount are both made in Japan.

So when it comes to the Elite Signature series wall mounts and table top stands they are all made in Japan accept for the China made KRP-TS01 60 inch table top stands. Both China and Japan in general make good quality products (I have seen both low and high quality products come out of China lately) , I was just surprised that for some reason Pioneer decided to have the KRP-TS01 table top stand made in China when all the rest of their stands and wall mounts are Japanese made.

Default Black haze???

I've have my Kuro 5020 for about 4 months now. Here's the thing. I just bought "300" (Blu Ray) & I noticed a "black haze" on the skin tones. I thought it was just the movie... then I went to blockbuster & rented more Blu rays. I noticed it on all of the movies. I really dont get the "black haze" if I'm watching regular satelitte TV (Dish Network).

Is the Black haze a just something you get when you watch a blu ray movie?? Is that suppose to be the Theater experience??? Is that 1080p?

Is this because my TV hasnt been calibrated??? If I get it calibrated will the "Black haze" go away?

Does anyone else notice this???

By the way I have a PS3 for Blu ray

Can you take a pic of what you are referring to...cant quite understand what you mean by "black haze". What are your pic settings by the way and which mode are you using?

Its like little bitty black dots. You have to really look for them. I just started noticing it on 300

I thought it sounded like "film grain", but if you're seeing it on ALL of the BDs that you've rented, then I'm not quite sure. Try testing your TV again with a BD that is either a brand new movie and/or uses HD video as a source, instead of a film transfer.

Planet Earth would be a good test BD...

"300" was supposedly filmed with a "grainy" look to it.

The only other thing I can think of, might either be a contrast and/or sharpness adjustment, but I still wouldn't think that this would cause what sounds like a "grainy artifact".

Well 300's ridiculously grainy [I love grain but not the fake kind they have on 300] but you said you tried out other BDs and you still experienced the same effect? You might wanna set the Enhancer Mode to 0 and Pure Cinema to Soft or Standard and see what happens. What are your picture settings? You dont have the Sharpness cranked up do you? Typically on the Kuros one would suggest setting it to 0 or somewhere in the negative.

Then def tone down the Enhancer and the Pure Mode settings, you will see an obvious diff.

Setup>Picture>Pro Adjust>Picture Detail>Enhancer Mode

That being said I dunno if the 5020s come with it. I'd suggest PMing someone like Sonny who has the 5020.

Pure Cinema

Film Mode: Advance

DRE, Black Level, ACL, Enhancer, Gamma, and CTI are no longer in the settings for the user to adjust. Pioneer has created thier own "recipe" of these settings that are hard-coded for each video mode and cannot be changed even in the service menu.

Below is a chart showing how the features are set-up per video mode:

A/V Mode ---- DRE --- Black Level --- ACL --- Enhancer --- Gamma --- CTI

Dynamic------ High ------- On ------- On -------- 2 ---------- 2 -------------- On
Performance-- Mid -------- On ------- On -------- 2 ---------- 2 -------------- On
Movie----------- Off ---------- On ------- Off --------- 2 ---------- 1 ------------- On
Sports---------- Mid --------- On ------- On -------- 2 ---------- 2 -------------- On
Game------------ Off --------- Off -------Off --------- 2 ---------- 2 -------------- On
Standard-------- Mid --------- On ------- On -------- 2 ---------- 2 -------------- On

Still waiting to pull the trigger on a 600M. I've pretty much settled on this set. However I'm still shopping around for a better price on a stand. I just cannot swallow paying 400 bucks for a freaking stand!

You can sometimes locate mail order companies that have the KRP-TS01 for $299. Most the time the KRP-TS01 sells for $400.
