Amazing lineup! Really up for the Renoir and the Skolimowski releases (will probably prioritise the double-set), and might get Full Circle too (but won't use the UHD so might get it later on when reissued, and miss out on the booklet). I already have Enys Men on pre-order, figured it might fly out again like Bait did and I could miss the booklet (luckily I didn't, but a lot of other people did).

Wow! At last, this is an incredible announcement, and it's from the new 4K remaster, which makes the old Criterion release look like crap:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=17533&d2=17532&c=6495

It was released in UHD in France, but I'm not too bothered by the lack of a 4K.

For those who want La Règle du jeu in 4K, the French UHD has English subs.

Has High Rise Donkey been included on any of the CFF DVDs or BFI Player? Can’t find many results for it when searching.

I've yet to watch my copy but I did have a gander at the pic quality and then put in the accompanying blu-ray, which looks shockingly bad.

Yeah, it’s one of those cases where the BD uses a different master to the UHD.

For anyone curious, the 4K restoration of The Rules of the Game was completed in SDR by Hivinty, and forced into HDR by the distributor in France for the UHD, which may explain the lack of a UHD.

Quote:

DeepL:
Our investigation revealed that during authoring, which was not carried out by Hiventy, the Blu-ray was identified as HDR, whereas the 4K restoration of this film was done exclusively in SDR.

This misidentification leads Blu-ray players and TVs to recover this information and automatically switch to HDR mode.
To process the signal identified as HDR but which in fact is not, the TV set increases the contrast strongly, which causes blacks to be blocked with a loss of information in these blacks.

Should be - I imagine the screen protection features will kick in and dim the screen.

I've disabled ASBL on mine, so it won't, but even if I re-enabled it just for Blue it'd eventually dim it to nothingness and defeat the purpose anyway.

If the BFI released one of their older Blu releases as a 4K release, what would people be down for?

Personally, I'd love the see Pasolini's Trilogy of Life on 4K.

4k releases I'd be down for:

Typical BFI release
The Complete Humphrey Jennings Volumes 1-3

Sorely in need of an upgrade
Madame De...

For the beauty of the image alone
Tess

For the sheer hell of it
L'Age d'Or

The Leopard (Il Gattopardo) - Visconti
Les Demoiselles de Rochefort - Demy
Playtime - Tati

All would, I think, benefit from the greater level of detail. Depends on the available source material, of course.

I'd be more even more keen if the BFI released one of their old DVD releases as a Bluray (e.g. some of the Kurosawa's) but know that's impossible/very unlikely.

Aguirre, Wrath of God, The Valley (Obscured by Clouds), Ikiru (wish this had received a Blu-ray release), Salò, or The 120 Days of Sodom, The Devils (let’s face it, never going to happen), Successive Slidings of Pleasure, The Great White Silence, Tokyo Story, The Enigma of Kaspar Houser, Nosferatu the Vampyre, and Fitzcarraldo. To name a few off the top of my head.
