Not gonna lie, I'd buy a future US release in a heartbeat. Simply because it's Dawn of the Dead and I'd love to add it to my collection. Not because I'm expecting more or new extras or even better PQ & AQ.

I can't imagine a world in which I didn't stand pat with Second Sight's superlative release, but there are some reasons people might get a different release. Better elements for the Cannes and Argento cuts, 3D version, Dolby Vision, different special features, etc.

This is the ONLY way I'd imagine it getting a US release, and even then, I doubt it. Have there been any non-boutique 3D releases lately in the US? The last one I remember was Silent Madness via VS. I could be wrong. And even then, it'd be a hard sell as actual 3D is mostly dead in the US except niche enthusists.

I am thinking of getting a copy but I have the POS Sony X700 UHD player. Anyone have this player and have a problem with the discs? I know I won't be able to play the BD special feature disc but I have most of them on the Anchor Bay Ultimate DVD.

The Cannes cut is already a hybrid of the theatrical negative and the CRI of the additional scenes, the same wasn’t done for the Argento cut as it was restored entirely from the complete interpositive of that version by the Italian rights holders. I guess a hybrid theatrical neg/Argento IP approach would also work for that one, and yet another scan would allow for an HDR pass (Italian resto is SDR only and was delivered as a finished file, not as a log master that could stand being run through the HDR-O-Matic).

The ironical thing though about the Argento transfer is that the opening titles are ‘clean’, they’re not an optical as the titles were recreated digitally and even though it’s ‘just’ an IP it’s still much higher in quality than the optically-printed titles of the other two versions (as an IP struck directly from the negative is still generations ahead of an optical). I did float the idea of using those clean shots to recreate the titles for the other two versions but the finished master is all that the Italian owners would provide.

For me, the chapter DAWN OF THE DEAD is closed with the excellent Second Sight 4k release.

What I need Richard Rubinstein to get his ass off is an HD release of THE NIGHT FLIER (in it's Director's Cut version)!

I wonder why no one has touched The Night Flier yet? He can't be asking an extortionist amount of money for that one too, right?

He constantly makes these horrible decisions which will result in no one ever purchasing the rights and him sitting on a pile of nothing.

The whole ordeal with Dawn over the years and the fact that he wouldn't allow the 3hour B&W Martin Cut to included or released (regardless of the auction outcome) put the final nail in the coffin for me with that guy. Fu*k him in every god damn way imaginable.

I wonder what turned him into such a bitter old man. Maybe even a personal fallout with Romero?!

I wish I knew. Something tells me he has nothing else, so rather than make something of value, he'd rather ride Romero's legacy. Hoping and praying someone coughs up his insane demands.

Romero I believe specifically stated the 3hour cut of Martin is "his cut". I like Martin a lot, not as much as Dawn, but it's great. And for his fans to be deprived of his vision of one of his great films, is an insult to the man. The fact that I believe he stated "No, the one you all got is his vision, we don't want this other cut muddying that up (paraphrasing) is even more infuriating, because it's said he would have allowed it for 200/300k (reliable source). So.... you don't want it "muddying things up" but for the right price you will? Absolute scumbag.

I cannot tell you all how much Second Sight's LE release of Dawn of the Dead means to me. Not only is it my favorite horror movie, it's my favorite movie. I can watch that thing, and immediately watch it again and still have just as much fun. I have seen it more than any movie I own, and quote it endlessly. I always go out of my way to sell anyone on it who is even considering getting it. Hell, when Second Sight initially announced the 4K release, it prompted me to finally buy a 4K Player, 4KTV and a Region Free player for the extras disc.

Rant over

The Second Sight LE set has to be the best $$$ I ever spent on a box set. I don’t regret buying it one bit. One of the few times I didn’t go back n forth about “should I buy it or not” it’s gotta be the prize in my movie library

I've almost bought it a couple of times, but I can't get into the bonus content since it is region B locked. That has prevented me from pulling the trigger.

The bonus content isn't all that exciting. The Anchor Bay Ultimate Edition DVD set has the best extras.
