Collectors have OCD. The nature of collecting is one of the fundamental signs. To what degree one is obsessed or compulsive varies but I think caring so much about the type of case to the point that a collector won't even buy one of their favorite movies because it makes their collection look wrong/bad is quite extreme.
But hey, to each their own and all that. |

Ok, here are my "stupid remarks again".
Like hell you won't come back and read it. Topic based: I looked at my shelf when I got home and noticed a bunch of different cases, didn't bother me in the least, my DVD shelf is the same way except more so. Aside from the size of shelf issue I still can't quite understand the beef people have, at least the digi books will return to the earth eventually. Imagine in a thousand years when Humans are no more and there are tons of Blu plastic cases floating around, I wonder how the Earth will incorporate them. Also HOME should have come in a cardboard case, the fact that it doesn't smacks of hypocrisy. |

You're right, I am obsessivley questioning what I see to be stupidity, idiocy or nit-pickery (is that even a word? should be).
EVERYTHING ON MY SHELF HAS TO LOOK THE SAME!!!!! It's like the fourth reich is turning out to be the BD case fanatics, wonder if we'll see an attempted "cleansing" of the non uniform cases. |

What's that? I wasn't paying attention.... I was distracted by my beautiful shelf of blu-rays... every one one of them exactly the same.... same height... same beautiful blue plastic that will be covering the humanless earth for all eternity.... mocking humanity... my God it's a sight to behold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see arguments for both sides. These are nicer than DVDs and we spend more on them, so a nice booksheld with all blu-ray cases being even height would look nice, but then again, it's the actual video and audio that comes from the disc that matters, not the case.

Sometimes the same studio will also end up switching the kind of cases they use. I've noticed several times on even the same titles.

Monk Season 8 is coming to Blu-ray but he is not happy about it:
![]() Monk: But --- but--- it doesn't fit evenly on the shelves. And...and...and... just look at that person's shelf. He has some digibooks that are a seventh of an inch taller than the rest. And...and...he has some with slipcases and some that aren't. {sob} There's even a steelbook case or two in there...Natalie, it isn't even. Natalie: Mr. Monk, you should be impressed by what a great selection of titles he has. That's what's important. The movies. Monk: Some of the boxsets he has have three movies in them...some have four. And some of those have mini-cases while others have fold-out. Natalie: Look, some of them are still unopened...still in their plastic wrap. Monk: I like those ones. --- Oh, no! Natalie: What is it, Mr. Monk, what's wrong? Monk: {whimper} He has some foreign editions. They're wider than the rest. Oh, God, their titles are in another language! Natalie: Mr. Monk, what are you doing?! Monk: Rearranging them by height and color code. The ones that don't fit in I'm throwing out. He'll thank me later for it. |

Digibook lovers all ignore the most important reason why digibooks are terrible, and it always makes them look foolish.
Blu Rays are already expensive. Maybe too expensive. Digibooks make them even MORE expensive. Why is Warner charging new release prices for catalog releases when all they include is a gigantic package that makes your shelves look terrible and a stupid, shitty book that adds nothing? But of course, this isn't good for an argument for digibooks. It's all name calling and OCD this and shelves that. You look like children. Grow up. Maybe go and get a high school degree where they teach you things like debating. Last edited by Nutbunnies; 07-11-2009 at 08:23 AM. |

At least, this is how my book cases are. Are other ones more like just paper sleeves or something? I know the DVDs of the first Futurama movies were just slots in a card sleeve and that bugged me. Quote:
But they don't seem to be charging more for them. Or at least, I haven't paid more for them. Maybe you're paying 25 dollars for catalog titles, but I know that I'm not, generally speaking, not even for the few book'd titles I have. And as far as adding nothing of value, that's a matter of opinion. I think the few pages of text and photos DO add something, even if it's not something that I'd be willing to pay extra for. |

Me, well here is where I am on the whole case issue.
I try to buy all of my Blu's in a standard plastic case. I am not at all bothered about having a slipcase (wish they would do away with them). I usually wait for steelbooks to be replaced by the standard case (for me steelbooks are an accident waiting to happen). I particularly dislike paper/cardboard based releases as I think they become tatty over time. So, unless I have no option I like to aim to purchase a release with a standard plastic case. |

I wonder if book collectors struggle with the same issue? "Gee, I would have loved to have bought that rare first edition of xyz, but it just wouldn't fit in with my other books because it is 1/2" taller....., and what the heck am I supposed to do with those nasty scrolls?"

My question is, what kind of adult thinks plastic blue cases look good showcased in their home?

My issue is with the BDs actually FITTING in my shelf. In my shelf some titles have slipcases and some don't, and the Criterion releases look different as well (I'm not a fan of the flimsy cardboard releases though, too delicate) but I have no problem with everything LOOKING different. It's simply a matter of everything fitting. Quote:

I am not one to display my cases; they are all neatly stored in a piece of furniture nicely hidden behind cabinet doors. In fact, the moment that Sony decides to release their 400 disc BD player, I will load them all and store the cases permanently. The need to display the cases is lost on me, or more accurately, I am just indifferent to the whole issue. Quote:
Too bad they didn’t teach you that high schools confer diplomas and not degrees; at least they don’t where I come from. |
