Do we need a "torch passed" though? They’re making the exorcist into an MCU type IP. My oh my, LOL.

Geez louise it's going to be Halloween 2018 all over again, which is good for about 50% of people and bad for the other 50% ha ha.

I'm waiting for a new Beyond the Door, with 81 year old Juliet Mills. Makes Ellen Burstyn look like a spring chicken!

The 2018 Halloween was fine. It is self contained and has a perfectly apt conclusion to what was set up in Carpenters original 1978 film. Laurie Strodes character arc is concluded.

It's the following sequels that seemed directionless, with the creators going 'Uh, what do we do now?'

I agree - 2018 was OK. I feel it started great and then slowly tailed off a bit. Still, not a bad flick overall and way better than any of the 37 sequels we got prior to it. The rest are bad though, IMO.

Halloween 2018 stands on its own decently though.

Agreed. Feels like a common trend with these "requels" where we get a decent enough but safe and derivative first entry, followed by sequels which opt to shake things up a bit and are more interesting as a result. Wouldn't be surprised if The Exorcist follows suit.

I just hope the naysayers don’t collapse when Corey leaps from the duvet with a cheeky grin and spins his head around a few times.

Not really. But its kind of become popular for "legacy" characters to show up in new sequels for nostalgia and to help establish the new leads.

Harrison Ford in Blade Runner 2, Neve Campbell in Scream 5, Jamie Lee Curtis in the new Halloween trilogy (she was a supporting character in the 2nd and 3rd films), Luke and Han in the new Star Wars trilogy.

I can't imagine they'll have a giant role for Ellen Burstyn, who is 90 years old. I imagine it'll probably be one scene where the new lead, probably Leslie Odom Jr, goes to see her for help and she recaps her story before pointing him in the direction of a priest or someone who can help.

I'll be really ticked off if Burstyn and Blair don't have a few scenes together.

And I wish Corey's mom's death wasn't cut from H:Ends. I really liked the cutting between the killing and the obnoxious kids in their costumes ringing the doorbell yelling "trick or treat." Good stuff!

I truly hope Linda Blair comes back. I just love her and her horror films she's been in. Even the TV movies were great. But it would also be very cool for her to be back on the big screen as Regan MacNeil.

I guess. The examples you gave are valid but was the exorcist ever really a franchise? One all time great film, a laughably bad sequel and a somewhat OK third film that was kind of tied in that came out much later. Ehhh.

Establish the new leads. All right. I suppose this is what we do now. Couldnt they have just made a "modern" exorcist film or started up a new thing? Why do they always have to dredge up some classic property?

You are forgetting the two more recent Exorcist films.
