My feelings as well..as much as I want the Steelbook it's hard to justify the price at this point. I'll wait on the sidelines, read the reviews and get the standard set on BF.

I cancelled my pre-order. I love the artwork on the steel books, but it’s not worth it. Also it takes up a LOT of space. I had the Best Buy Rambo 1-5 set which was set up the same way and packaging but I ended up selling it.

It’s a bummer WB dropped the ball on this set! When they treat a film right, they can go all out (I.e. Maltese Falcon, Casablanca).

Don’t understand these posts. I mean if you don’t like the content, I understand. But we haven’t suddenly learned anything new about this set that hasn’t already been known for months.

Feb: "Wait for the set to be released before making a judgement"
Today: "What didn't we already know?"

I never claimed that things we learned about the set were false. I seriously don’t know why you feel the need to jump on every single thing I post like it’s some gotcha. I was the first one here to confirm that the rumored STM remaster wasn’t being included and was just as crushed as everyone else, so please stop trying to rewrite history, as if I thought that somehow all of the concerns were going to be silenced by flawless discs. That’s BS. All I’m saying is, what’s changed in the last 24 hours to make people go, “oh, I’ve known about such and such issue for weeks now, but now that people are CONFIRMING it, I’m cancelling”? Known issues are known issues. Nothing has changed.

It's because you were the person leading us to believe that STM was getting a remaster and we didn't.

I quoted this because we were told that STM was getting remastered, and it wasn't. So, sorry, but I'm not taking anything "to the bank". We got our hopes up for this set which was supposed to be AMAZING and it's not.

At this point in time, ONLY the Reeve films are being worked on. “5-Film Collection” is written in the new official 100th anniversary press release, meaning SI-IV and SII Donner Cut.”

That’s more than good enough confirmation for me.
"Worked on". Well, STM wasn't "worked on", was it?

It’s not the Frankenstein route, it’s the Ultimate Set route. Set’s that should have been produced if competent monkeys were employed.

If it can be done well I see no point in keeping multiple cases of the same film.

Now you’re changing the subject. All I did was pass along the information given to me. And all Jim did was pass along the information given to him by the studio. It isn’t HIS fault (or mine) that Warner chose not to use the new scan for this set. Yes, the scan was done. That’s been 100% confirmed by the colorist who did the work. If that isn’t good enough for you, then I don’t know what to tell you.

But once again, this isn’t what we were taking about. You’re acting as though I made the case in February that the discs would be great and everyone should just reserve judgment until the sets were out and not to heed the concerns people raised and somehow I’m now going back on that. And that isn’t true. Anyone can read the thread and see that for themselves.

And that's fine, but when you say you don't understand why people aren't liking this set, it should come as no surprise.

And no, I'm not making a case for what YOU said in Feb, just a general vibe of the thread.

I’m not surprised by that at all. I’m just questioning why suddenly we’re getting “well, Warner screwed this up, so I’m canceling” posts when nothing new has been learned recently, that’s my only point. Shrug.

Because we were hoping there would be mistakes in the PR. For example: the BR disc of STM has the extended cut. That was NOT in the press release.

Just finished the movie and colour wise it is very different from the Blu-ray. A definite brown theme has been applied here like was noted of the Star Wars Episode 4 4k. That is probably by best comparison. Not sure why they have gone this route, the full candy like colour on the blu has been changed with the description I have given above.

To be fair, you can’t really blame WB for something that you assumed and they never actually said. You can also buy the extended version of STM on Amazon for £7. I’d understand more if the extended version of the film was 4K and exclusive to the steelbook set but it’s not. It’s the same disc that’s been available for a while now.

The 4K release in the UK of Superman has always included the 2001 cut on Blu-ray. The US release won't.

Well, yeah, but remember we were supposed to be getting primo insider info long before the PR. That didn't happen.

I have the extended BR already.

Do you mean the 3 hour extended cut? That’s not included with the UK 4K (say that fast ten times), the Blu-ray is the special edition disc.

The way I see it is that people are seeing how Good both versions of 2 are and noticing that the reused scenes from the first movie look so much better than on the actual SM1. And it's setting off 'what could have been" feelings from them.

It actually is making more excited to get my hands on SM2 DC if and when it comes out as a solo. And I still have hopes that SM1 will come out with a better transfer sometime in my lifetime!

So bring on the singles in the USA and I am wondering when the next anniversary is where they can re-re-release the first movie (hopefully with branching ).

I am so glad that they seemed to have gotten 2 right.

And people should use the TV cut when referring to the 3 hour cut because so many people confuse the "special edition 2.5 hour" with the "extended edition 3 hour.
