The original Technicolor separation camera negatives? That's incredible! I'm really curious to see how this comes together.

This will be a very costly restoration and will probably take longer than usual. Put me down for 2 copies! I applaud Kino and Paramount and whoever came through with the funding for this true Dynoptic 3-D restoration.

MONEY FROM HOME was photographed in standard aspect ratio 1.37:1 Dynoptic 3-D. This complex system interlocked a pair of three-strip Technicolor cameras meaning that six rolls of film (yellow, cyan, magenta left and right) went through the cameras for every take.

Hal Wallis’ million dollar production was scheduled for a gala New Year’s Eve premiere in 3-D across the country on December 31, 1953. However, Technicolor was not able to prepare the left/right 35mm prints in time and the previews were shown flat. When the film went into wide release in early 1954, 3-D movies were dying at the boxoffice so the film only had 356 playdates in 3-D and 17,220 theatres showed it flat. That is unfortunate as it is a beautifully photographed stereoscopic motion picture.

6-strip 3D negatives! That's going to be a monumental task converting to Blu-ray 3D!

Indeed.

I don't know that it's necessarily confirmed that both sides are being scanned from camera negatives (although I would be thrilled to learn if that is the case). In discussing the other Dynoptic 3-D title, Bob mentioned that the left side would require 4k separation negative scans, which Paramount at that time weren't prepared to pay for. The right side could've presumably been sourced from some other element.

Whatever the case, I have little doubt the final product will look incredible.
