Wasn't even a case where I could ask my friends as JRPG's were so niche in America, nobody I knew was even aware Dragon Warrior existed.
I managed to get the detailed strategy guide for DW4 (you had to send away for it) and luckily DW3 came with it's own strategy guide. Those helped a lot.

It's such a struggle because he's resistant to everything and regains 100 HP every round automatically. So all you can do is have 2 guys attack and you definitely need 2 guys healing every round if you want to survive. If you buff or do bedragon he just takes it off. So you're lucky to net like 50-100 damage per round lol. It's a marathon. I think my record was like 35 rounds or something lol.

I finished the original Ni No Kuni (which I loved just as the first time I played it), then moved on to NNK 2 for the first time. As much as I wanted to love Ni No Kuni 2, I really disliked it. The art style look amazing, but everything else was just... bad for me. They took out all of the elements I loved from the 1st game - combat system, great story line, familiars, etc. in NNK2. I found the combat system especially grating - especially the skirmish/zerg fights, which seemed like an awful Dynasty Warriors ripoff. The impression I got from this one is that the developers didn't know what they wanted to do with this game. I'm having trouble even calling it an action RPG as elements of it were outright hack n slash. This is one of the first RPG's I've quit without finishing in ages.

I’ve thought about trying some of the spin-offs. DQ Monsters - I played the first Pokémon way back, got all 150, but after seeing Silver/Gold seemed to be just more of the same I checked out and haven’t been interested in that kind of thing since, so the Monsters subseries doesn’t appeal to me much (plus it has Terry, who I’m not a fan of.) Ditto the Builders series - just not interested in the whole Minecraft type of thing.

Treasures looks like it could be fun but there’s a lot of other things out there to get to. If they ever made a Princess Alena spin-off, I would be all over that!

Yeah I tried Monsters but gave up on it. Treasures though I'm liking alot even though it's a spin-off and not even turn based.

Any hope that a Pixel Remaster of Dragon Quest 1-6 will be released in the future?

The HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III should be out fairly soon, next year probably but maybe it’ll pop up later this year. They say they may do more of them, starting with I and II, but I think they should do IV and V next if they intend to make more HD-2D remakes. Unless they’ve been working on them all already, these will all probably take quite a bit of time to come out.

I want full details, especially as regards content. It better have at least all of the material from the Game Boy Color release.

Square Enix store has an exclusive collector's edition up for $200. At least they're no longer charging absurd shipping prices, with a $10 option. Priced crazy, as most of their collector's editions always are. And yet, I'm still considering this one to add to my Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest collection.

So physically it's the game, a box and acrylic crap. Not even any music (physical OR digital), steel or artbook. How is that $200?

Square Enix is always gonna Square Enix. They've been going these $200'ish collector's editions exclusive to their store for some time now. Here are some other examples - all $200 plus shipping.

[Show spoiler]Visions of Mana:

Star Ocean:

Octopath Traveler II:

Diofield Chronicles:

I actually did pickup Octopath Traveler II in an impulse buy.

And yet, I foolishly cancelled my Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collector's edition, just after ordering it, angry are Square for the way they handled the North American release. That thing turned out to be WAY more rare/valuable than I thought (still goes for around $600 sealed) because Square Enix made the North American physical release exclusive to their online store in very limited numbers. Heck, the North American FF Pixel Remaster for Switch standard (without collector's edition stuff) alone goes for $250+ sealed.

I don't think they specified, but you can be sure Dragon Quest 1-2 will end up getting a physical release as DQ 3 is getting. Dragon Quest is a game franchise where the Japanese market has always made up the lion share of game sales and given Japanese consumers having a far greater avoidance of digital only than Western markets, you can be sure it'll get a physical release. I do hope it gets a North American physical release, but I'm less sure about that than a Japanese physical release. They could pull some BS like putting one game on cartridge, one download code for a NA release, as if often the case.

Gamestop has this up for $49.99 instead of the $59.99 everybody else has it listed for.

That's weird they've releasing 1 & 2 after 3, although I guess chronologically it works. Anyway the trailer looks amazing and I love the music playing, which is the credits music and one of my favor Dragon Quest songs. This is obviously a no brainer, I'm getting it, an might even get the collector's. Looks like it's not sold out thankfully. I still hope though that we might hear about a PS version because I would really like to play them getting trophies but if it's Switch only I guess I will get that. treasures was Switch only so I guess the deal isn't in place anymore. Also I still wish they do this for DQ4 which is the one I really want remade properly. But 3 is definitely one of the best!
