Then I tried the movie on an LG player. No problem. I watched it again later, on the LG player again, and it froze at EXACTLY the same Boss Nass spot where it had frozen on the Sony player. I had to unplug the player as before.

I tried it AGAIN on the LG player, and it played perfectly fine, like nothing happened.

So I requested a replacement from Amazon, third-party seller as before, since it's an import, and the exact same thing happened again with both players. It's eerie.

Obviously my biggest problem is attempting to watch "The Phantom Menace" so many times, but please let's pass over that for now and help me troubleshoot. So what could be causing the inconsistent freezing? Clearly the disc is playing a role, since it froze in EXACTLY the same spot, but it's really confusing to me, because it works perfectly fine half the time. The disc is spotless and pristine to the eye. Is it just a bad batch of discs? It must be, right? But then why do they work fine occasionally?

As Jar Jar would say, "Any help here would hot, heh-heh."
While I've not owned the LG player, your description in context of the Sony sounds like the intermittent lockups that player experiences. It's the main reason I upgraded from my x700 (x800 has the same issue) to the Panny ub820. When that Sony locks up, it takes a full unplug to get anything back, and the player can immediately do it again. As a side note, I had some relief by completely disconnecting the player from the internet per some online suggestions. Unplug ethernet, forget wireless connections, kill it all. It did help for a time.

However, with you also having an LG do it, can you test the disc on an Xbox/Playstation or a friend's player? I would do that before you go upgrading to another player, though the Panny I have has never locked up on discs my Sony choked on, so there's that.

Hope all that helps.

That’s a tough one to diagnose. Bad batch comes to mind for sure though especially if it’s happening on both players. I would go after another replacement disc.

Good discs follow orders.

Yeah, I'll definitely try it on my brother's PS4...but only once. I don't know how much more Boss Nass I can stomach. Thanks for the advice!

I will definitely do that if I have to, but first I need to thoroughly rewatch all the other ones in the set. If it's just Phantom Menace, that will be relatively cheap to replace. Thanks!

EDIT: I don't know how to quote multiple members in one post, sorry.

And yeah, @PeterTHX, I was waiting for someone to make that joke. I appreciate it. But you know, I'm kind of sick of Hunting for new Tech all the time. Discs keep Wrecking my players.

I have to watch a lot of discs these days to ensure they don’t skip or freeze due to all the scratches. Even the replacements sometimes come in scratched and I have to verify there are no playback errors. I keep the film running as I’m doing other things in the background. That should help you when it comes to not completely tuning into Boss Nass on that third re-watch.

Unfortunately the Skywalker Set has the crappy cardboard sleeve packaging which can scratch the discs. Be sure to inspect and watch all discs. Let us know how you make out.

Oh crap, I should have clarified that the UK import that I bought is Blu-ray only (no 4K), and it includes three folding digipacks with overlapping discs, but no sleeves. Anyway, your point still stands. Multitasking it is, lol.

Also, I first read that as "turning into Boss Nass" I was gonna say, I don't look that bad.

I suppose this is a good place as any to post -
Went to the re-release of Return of the Jedi earlier in the month. Had a hell of a time finding a show that wasn't sold out of decent seating. Finally found one that was still too far forward and off center than I would have liked.
It was the latest Special Edition that's on this set, with the enlarged doors in Jabba's palace for parking the Sail Barge and further garbage matte cleanup. Audio was 5.1 digital.
Mostly a young crowd. They cheered at the opening and the character introductions. Laughed at the right times.
Believe it or not they cheered Hayden as Anakin at the very end.

Despite decades of being on home video and cable, easily seen on Disney+, it was a near sellout crowd and mainly the young.

Star Wars will live on for the next generations. Disney should take this as a sign to release new films. There is still a huge market for them.

Younger millennials and older zoomers love the prequels. It's just something we have to accept.

It's a generalization my friend. Point is a ton of people grew up on them and they love them, it's not a secret. I'm sure the same will be true of the Disney stuff in 10-20 years.

There's no need for all this fusing and feuding. Let's take the high ground and agree that sequel trilogy is garbage. We all gave it a chance, but it failed. Plot hole problems, Mary-sue characters, and modern propaganda, etc.. Let alone the fact that 9 was just a rip-off of "Heir to the Empire".

The Star Wars 6 Part documentary on Amazon Prime was really good.

Not sure if Marcia Lucas helped fund this thing but she sure comes off looking like a hero. She's a major talking head in this doc.

I didn't realize or forgot she won the Oscar for editing, I did watch that Academy Awards where she won with Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew.

Her comments through out the doc seemed so right on the mark and her comments on George Lucas' strengths and failures seemed very accurate as were her comments on the prequels.

A lot of interesting facts in this doc including how "I am your father" developed.

Also many people did work that was uncredited.

George also does not come off looking great toward his ex-wife but sometimes that's the way it rolls in a divorce.

But this documentary points out the significant contributions of Marcia Lucas and several other players in the Original Trilogy.

There is also a Star Trek doc made by the same company that is also really good.

That Icons Unearthed: Star Wars documentary is fascinating but the audio mixing is flarking terrible. Sounds like overcooked clipped to hell shite.

The Center Seat Star Trek documentary series is fantastic.
