In reality, there are two schools of thought with towers as surround. Some feel that all 5/7 speakers being the same will truly give you a uniform sound with the tweeters all the same height and all the same timbre. These are usually also the crowd who prefers multi-channel music versus movies. Others, like you, feel that since the surround usually doesn't have the boom, you don't need the tower, but a bookshelf or bipole/dipole speakers. These are usually the crowd who enjoys movies more than multi-channel music. In the end, it depends on your preference. The towers may produce a fuller midrange, but that may not be what you are looking for. If you can do an in-house demo, I would try both and keep the setup you like best. |
