I drove to the AMC theater nearest to me to see this. When I asked for a ticket to the 10:45 AM showing, I was told it had been canceled; the guy selling tickets had no idea why. There was a 10:45 showing of Asteroid City, so I went to see that instead. When I came out, I confirmed with the ticket seller that there would be a showing of Past Lives at 10:20 AM on Wednesday (2 days later). He said that's what his schedule showed.

When I returned to the AMC on Wednesday, no tickets had been sold other than mine. However, just before the movie began, two other people came in. Loved the movie, but wasn't prepared for the intense emotion of the final scene. Began crying - then realized that both of the other people in the theater also were crying.

I've recommended to several people that they make an effort to see this, but it's already left a couple of the theaters where it was playing.

This movie was absolutely beautiful, such incredible acting on the part of all three leads. Just a glance or a movement said so much more than even the well-written dialogue scenes could. I’m very happy I was able to see this in theaters.

8 out of 10

This kind of reflects my reaction as well. Glad you were able to watch it in the theater, this kind of gem really shouldn't be missed.

Saw the first 30 minutes last Saturday, until a fire alarm at my local AMC (All Movies Compromised) theater caused the remainder of the showing to be cancelled. I'm going to try and see the remainder this Sunday morning.

Just finished watching this in a matinee with about 6 other people in the theatre. There are lines in this film that will stick with me especially when Nora and Arthur are sitting up in bed and Arthur has such a heartfelt/breaking line. And Hae Sung's last words to Nora...holy moly, what a few words can do. And the ending...I felt what she felt.

Here's a video that I created after my attendance on opening night in Manhattan, including my pictures from the film shoot of the final scene, on the block where I live in the East Village (it's an interview of the director by Steve Buscemi):

Beautiful movie. Very few films manage to make me feel emotional but this one did it. Beautiful writing, cinematography, etc.

This has to be seen in theatres.

Hae Sung, I love you forever.

I'm happy that I managed to catch this before it left theaters. It's a terrific movie, though not for everyone. I wish it had done better, but i guess the box office wasn't bad for a film that's mostly in Korean.

Just saw this at an art house theater last night. Was great. But Choi Woo-sik wasn’t in it right?

I’m gonna read the following posts and catch up

This crossed $10 million domestically this weekend. It's not on many screens. A24 will drop it soon on digital, which is good for everyone.

Glad the wife and I helped!! Hahaha

I’m serious. We need more of these films

Actually have You Hurt My Feelings as a follow up to this- I read and IMDb recommended it if one likes Past Lives

I’m kinda glad that Teo Yoo ended up as Hae Sung cuz Choi Woo-sik isn’t as “beefy”, for lack of a better term. The character was twice described as being “manly”

As great of an actor that Choi Woo-sik is, his physical appearance didn’t fit the description as well as Teo Yoo.

Saw this today at the last screening in my city. It was well attended. Great movie!

I love the cinematography, dialogue, and character interactions; it's so well written. It ends really strongly with the last act and how it builds up to that moment.

I also attended the very last screening at my local theater last night before it got replaced by today's new releases. The final scene was a heartbreaker which I only remembered later recalled Nora's character trait described earlier in the film. Brilliant movie--9/10 but rounded up to five stars for the poll.

This is precisely why I love having a home theater.

Like I often do, I found myself wide awake at 3am.Went down to the cave and threw this on. I was specifically looking for something that no one else in the house would have any interest in. So it checked that box...

Pleasantly surprised to see this streaming in Dolby VISION/ATMOS - it checked a few more boxes....

2 hours later ...... Every box imaginable was checked...Pure movie magic!!!

Devastatingly beautiful...

As a Korean cinema fan I've anticipated the home video release of Past Lives for weeks. K-dramas and K-movies are my daily medicine -- my assurance there are still talented writers, directors and craftspeople who consistently make beautiful and unpredictable films and shows. OK, I know this isn't, technically, a Korean-made film but I hoped some of that Korean magic would rub onto it.

Past Lives is a fair movie. The ending is fantastic! The story kept my interest. It's a film worth watching. It doesn't have the violence, filth and super-powered beings which Hollywood has spewed out for several years now. Hooray!

Although the ending gave me a bit of a punch in the gut I have a huge problem with Past Lives: there is no chemistry between the lead characters. They aren't bad people but, ultimately, I didn't care what happened to them. Perhaps it's because the writing is bland. There wasn't any dialogue which hasn't already been said better in a hundred other novels, films or shows I've experienced. Maybe the acting isn't great. The bottom line is Past Lives is not satisfying, let alone romantic. It's very ho-hum. It concerns me people are raving this is one of the most romantic films they've seen in years when, as an old man, I feel like most people today seem to have no comprehension of love and caring.

Compared to the many K-dramas I've watched this year, Past Lives would score a 3/10. Last week I finished watching a K-drama called See You in My 19th Life, which features a lead character who uniquely remembers her past 18 lives and is sharing her current life with some of the same people she's known in previous lives. Yep, it literally covers some of the same ground the characters in Past Lives discuss. See You in My 19th Life is easily 8/10. It truly is romantic, beautifully written, loaded with twists and is completely engaging. And I absolutely care about the characters.

Past Lives is worth a view but I fear audiences have become too used to modern Hollywood drivel to realize it is not truly great.

Next on our Korean-movie list is, IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE. Have you seen that? Reading the reviews now: I can see that most think it’s great.
