At least Radio Silence will be executive producing.

Scream 6 actress Melissa Barrera addressed if she would return in Scream 7.

Wes Craven's meta-commentary on the horror genre is back in the limelight, after a successful revitalization/semi-reboot that came in 2022's Scream (aka Scream 5).

This new set of films has brought the focus on a new young cast, headed up by rising mega-star Jenna Ortega, while also honoring some stars from the franchise's storied past.

In the latest issues of Total Film, Scream and Scream 6 star Melissa Barrera revealed if she would be game to appear in a potential seventh movie in the storied franchise.

Barrera, who plays Sam Carpenter in the recent Scream films, said that if/when a Scream 7 were to happen, she would "not [be] opposed to" returning.

"There are so many places that Sam could go. That’s one of the reasons that, when I read the script for 'Scream 5,' I was so interested in the character. There’s so much potential here of where she could go with her mental health - she’s just unpredictable. I find that that darkness in her makes her that much more interesting to play and to watch."

One direction the character could go, according to Barrera (via Comicbook.com), would be introducing her mother, who Barrera wants to see played by MCU alum Salma Hayek:

“I am dying to work with Salma Hayek. It would be a dream if she played my mother. It would be amazing.”

The only bad news is, the movie can't move forward until after the strike...

Quote:
The next installment in the Scream series looks to have landed a director as Happy Death Day helmer Christopher Landon has come on to direct the sequel. Spyglass Media Group is producing the pic again and Landon will take over for over from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence, who helped relaunch the franchise, directing the past two installments. They along with their partner Chad Villella will remain on as exec producers.

Paramount is expected back as distributor. The film currently has no writer, which won’t be solved as long as the WGA strike continues

Scream 6 bowed in March breaking franchise records by bringing in $168 million at the global box-office the previous installment brought in $137.7 million at the global box-office.

Landon has become highly-sought after on the director market after successfully directing the 2017 horror hit Happy Death Day for Universal. He most recently helmed the Netflix pic We Have A Ghost for Netflix.

There's no way that Melissa and Jenna can say no to S7 at this point. It would be a disservice to what's already been put in place in S5 and 6. We haven't delved into their estranged family, they just had Chad and Tara connect, and you have Sam and Danny. There's still lots to chew on with this group.

Yup. Wouldn't be surprised if Melissa and Jenna are still making these when they're the age Courtney and Neve are now.

Scream VI was passable...barely.

The formula is just driven completely into the ground at this point. Nonsensical new murderers (with equally goofy motivations), the "shock" killing of legacy characters, and increasingly ridiculous plot armor for characters taking multiple stabbings and continuing on like it's their afternoon hot yoga class.

In spite of the series's steady decline, I'll probably be there for one more. Just give me some more Jenna Ortega, a matinee discount, a large Cherry Coke, and a couple of hours to kill.

There hasn't been a bad Scream movie yet. They're all great.

I also hope Brian Tyler comes back. I like his themes.

Still sucks about RS, I was just getting comfortable with this team and the fact that they haven't botched this series.

IIRC, they threw a nice little tease about Sam’s mother in Scream VI and I immediately assumed her character would be introduced in the 7th film. Safe to say, it’ll be interesting to see who they cast in that role.

New Horizons - Brian Tyler (from SCREAM - Music From The Motion Picture) - YouTube

His scores are great, I just wish he'd totally drop the method where he combines random parts of the score from all over the movie into one track for no reason. The release for 6 didn't do that, but 5's soundtrack is all over the place.

Interesting choice. Loved his Happy Death Day movies. Hopefully that means Jessica Rothe will have a role.

No! Landon is a horror comedy director that overdoes it on the comedy and has absolutely no grasp of horror or tension

Chad survives multiple stabbings again and is recruited by GI Joe at the end.

I'd imagine Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt are coming back to write the script, but in any case... you don't think Landon is aware of the film he's gonna be making? HDD and Freaky were his creations. S7 is different. He's filling in for Radio Silence which comes with certain responsibility to the franchise.

Mmhhh idk. I’m also skeptical that Christopher Landon can deliver on the scares and suspense. All his horror/comedy films have had a much stronger comedic tone, with the horror/tension almost feeling like an afterthought. Never say never, but can’t say it inspires much confidence. I really enjoyed Happy Death Day, but the highlight of that film was the comedy, Rothe’s performance, and her character’s arc. But not the horror or scares.
