Okay but they had to fashion a plot around the ending of the first film which was only meant as a fun little wink to the audience, not an actual set up for a sequel. I thought they did the best they could getting out of the corner they had painted themselves into. The Old West scenario of the third film was always meant to be the “true” sequel.

I just always thought the original was good enough to stand on its own. Like The Goonies. Not everything needs a sequel.

I would go as far as to say it's better than the first.

3 suffers from the same problem as all good trilogies, when the second movie is so strong...the third can only go downhill.

So many examples of this issue.

It also doesn't make any sense that a high school student would be best friends with an eccentric, older scientist. Or that Marty's mother liked the name "Marty", but didn't give that name to her older son. Or that George and Lorraine would hire the man who sexually assaulted Lorraine to detail their car. Or that it would take so long for George to have his first novel published. Or...

Point is, all three of the movies in this trilogy are ludicrous - the idea of time travel itself is silly - but they sure are a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

The plot device isn’t my only issue with Part II. For starters, I always hated the whole Marty being called “chicken” thing. Whenever the script needed Marry to screw up or do something ridiculous, they best they could come up with was to have him just not being able to deal with being called a chicken. It’s lazy writing. Too much of the movie is just a retread of the first movie, but from a different angle and the most egregious offense of all, no Crispin Glover!

The "something's gotta be done about your kids" has bothered me more over time but I just try to remember they didn't know there was going to be a sequel when they did that lol.

They floated the idea that Marty broke a window or something playing ball and had to help Doc around the house to make up for it and that's how they bonded. Not cannon or anything, but I like it.

That plot device was set up at the end of the first film. So if it doesn’t make sense in Part II, then it doesn’t make sense in the original either.

Scream 3 being the exception.

In the original it was intended as a joke.

... I could never just own the first one. It's all or nothing. Classic trilogy.

Who stole Marty's right leg? He only has one leg. His leg can't be in the Delorean because there is no car. This would be great as one of those memes that drives people nuts (like what color is this dress? or whatever), lol.

Well, I think all three movies are fantastic, and this is the greatest trilogy ever made! Suck it, haters!
