Dunno whether or not I'll actually play the damn thing as I find these tabletop games kind of indiminating (hell, even most board games scare me off - one look at the instructions and I'm like nah, can't be bothered). The deluxe rule book is interesting, though, as there's plenty of (presumably canon) in-universe contextual stuff, and there's some goodies included like newspaper cut-outs and Off-world leaflets and shit.
Don't feel bad. I got into modern boardgaming with my girlfriend a couple years ago and we've already given up on it. Confusing, poorly-written incomplete rule books with typos and mistakes, misprinted cards, QC issues, replacement programs, expansions, Kickstarter FOMO, exclusives and other nonsense, ludicrously high prices, intimidating, over-complex rules and gameplay, toxic online community. Too many games where every time we want to play we have to re-read the rules again because they're so complex.

We kept some favorites that we could actually enjoy, but we're pretty much done with all that. We can only support one dysfunctional hobby at the time, and movie collecting fills that role very well.

The version of the 4K that included the alternative cuts and extras is OOP, unless I’d have bought it. It commands quite high prices on eBay.

It does this on every cut on the Archival Disc but not in the FC or Workprint.
Finally had a chance to take a listen through my embarrassingly large collection of Blade Runner editions, and Roy's gasps are doubled in all the 5.1 tracks on the Archival BD (and you hear his final exhale over the next shot of Deckard in both the US and director's cuts). It's also doubled on the stereo track for the international cut, but not on the stereo for the US and director's (which kind of blows a hole in my downmix theory). Stereo tracks on the laserdisc editions follow suit (doubled in the international, not in the US and director's cuts).

My guess is that either the 5.1 audio for the US cut was taken from the international cut and awkwardly conformed, or the audio was originally doubled in the 70mm six-track mix, and then corrected in the 35mm Dolby Stereo for the US release.

At any rate, it does seem the audio for the Archival BD was mixed together from a few different sources, but I think we've known that for a while.

Like elgee said, the game is excellent. Technically impressive for its time, and it does a great job of replicating the atmosphere of the film. The remaster was a disappointment upon launch, but they've since released two patches which have ironed out the kinks and give you the option to toggle between the OG and "enhanced" visuals. Tbh the main draw is the ability to play it on my PS5 and Switch, as it was a PC exclusive for the longest time.

I keep thinking about grabbing the Briefcase set on eBay.

Which makes no sense, because I already own the 5 disc Blu-ray digibook.

But I just want it.

…is that wrong?

Chances are, they're all from the same dodgy run from the Cinram plant that my copy was. The DVDs are discoloured and unreadable now, the BDs still play so I managed to make a back-up but are starting to get a silver mottling and one even has a pinprick sized hole in the data layer. If I hadn't made a back-up now, I doubt they'd even be readable in a couple of years, just like the DVD discs.

Honestly, everyone should check their own copies of the 5-disc set and report back. It'd be really interesting just how many others have rotted, unknown on the shelf like mine, which I only discovered when I pulled it down to watch last week.

I noticed disc rot on the DVDs of the 5 disc set about 4 or 5 months ago. I bought another set used on eBay to replace those discs. They work, but who knows if those will rot in time. This is so frustrating, I’ve had a big number of DVDs from WB and New Line from the early 2000s rot to the core. Infuriating to say the least.

I started backing up discs after my Criterion "A Night To Remember" rotted.

Checked my discs. No rot that I could see. Some minor scratches on the DVDs that I’m hoping won’t affect anything. Some smudging that I was mostly able to wipe off.

Are people saying the blu-rays are rotting too?

My set is the 3-disc 30th anniversary collector's edition digipack with the unicorn cover. Should I worry?

Probably not. It seems to apply to the 2007 discs.

Yup. Myself and some other users have noted some silver mottling appearing in the gold layer on some or all 3 BDs in the set. That's not normal, and surely a sign if it degrades further it's gonna start impacting the data. As I say, I also have a pin-prick sized hole in the data layer on the Final Cut disc in that set. It reads still (presumably error correction in the player managing for now) but I don't need to bother backing that one up due to the superior 4K disc I now have.

You're OK though. Seems to only affect pre 2010 releases made at a particular plant, and impacts any label who used that plant. UK Warner doesn't seem to be affected, thank the lord as most of my older Warner discs are UK ones. Unless I'd have a lot of my collection unplayable right now.

They're not all rotting at the same rate.

For me, the Enhancement Archive has marked darkening of the playable side and absolutely nothing can be had from the disc. Totally dead.

Dangerous Days I can't play or load in a PC either, but the darkening is less pronounced and the PC can still read a disc label of DANGEROUSDAYS or whatever it was even if it won't actually load anything else.

Maybe there's an identifier on the disc we could use to check if they came from the problematic plant?

Which is a miracle in itself, as Warner HD-DVDs are renowned for rot. Did you actually try loading them or just look?

I have 136 HD DVDs and I never had a problem with any of them until this last Christmas season. The Polar Express would not play. So I bought a Blu-Ray copy and after watching it I threw the HD DVD in just to check it one last time before I tossed it. Of course, it worked again.

I think disc rot is overblown. I think a lot of people blame disc rot when the problem is a dirty disc or a dirty player. I have 3 HD DVD players and my Toshiba XA2 never fails. But my other players have failed to play some discs.

Nope, definitely rot.

Basic Instinct Blu
A Night To Remember Criterion DVD
Flight Plan Blu
Unfaithful Blu
Live and Let Die DVD
Goldfinger DVD
You Only Live Twice DVD

All of these I tested on players and drives. All wouldn't play.

Don't give people a false sense that rot doesn't exist. I have two Looney Tunes laserdiscs that are shot to hell but I keep them because the spots that aren't rotted have shorts that haven't been released.

Back up your discs.
