Day one purchase for sure. This is one of Clint Eastwood's best and one I was hoping would come to 4K. Thank you Kino

I'm pretty sure we would love to release it under the Kino Cult line if we could.

The VHS was Embassy so either MGM or Studio Canal should have it. It was also on Laserdisc from Nelson Entertainment. Someone has to have this.
It's neither with MGM or SC.

A word of warning. Don't want to bring down the mood or anything but some of The Eiger Sanction's dialogue wasn't just sexist, it was gratuitously ugly about it i.e. not really in the service of the story. George Kennedy's character was the culprit, I forget. There'll be a lot to overlook if you still want to enjoy it. It is a Clint movie after all and there's still lots to enjoy. I wouldn't ordinarily pick up on it but I think it was overly sexist, even by the standards of the 1970s.

The best thing about “The Eiger Sanction” is that everybody but Eastwood seem fully aware that they were making a campy Bond-esque knockoff.

I was thinking . . . perhaps one of KINO's new releases for 2024 will be the 'MOD' remake of MIRAGE (1965) . . .

Jigsaw(1968)

The opening sequence is pleasantly trippy.

BAD was produced by Factory Films with New World Pictures originally distributing, followed by a reissue through Avco Embassy (which also carried over to video rights). A couple years ago, it was streaming on Shout Factory TV (in a 40+ year old tape master) indicating they might own it or have certain rights.

I don’t remember if I’ve seen The Eiger Sanction. That said, I think I’ll pick it up (along with the other recent Eastwood 4Ks from Kino) to support Kino’s 4K Eastwood collection.

Thumbs up My WSL Order

Greetings to you all! I'm just stopping by to inform all of my fellow Kino Lorber enthusiasts that my most recent WSL order arrived at The Kitty Cat Condo™ this afternoon, courtesy of the USPS. Both of my cats eagerly pounced on their respective Blu-ray selections for tonight's double-feature extravaganza. As you can see here, Chico picked out a 1970s Western featuring an amnesiac gunfighter and Harpo chose a science-fiction thriller involving robots running amok. Oh my!

I suppose "The Eiger Sanction" is the last the obvious Eastwood titles that Kino would have access to for 4k UHD. The other ones that we know they have access to - Joe Kidd, The Beguiled and Coogan's Bluff - apparently didn't sell well enough per KLI for them to be 4k UHD options.

Kino Lorber Insider has mentioned before that blaxploitation films were really poor sellers for them, so I'm not sure that they would take a chance on the Blacula films. Both movies are actually better than they have any right to be, though.

The rules are all different when the genre adds “horror”. I’m sure these would sell quite well.

WOW Thank you so much for pointing out the obvious.
This reminds me of a recent experience I had with a friend of mine, we are old school chums and have known each other since 1970 (so you have some idea of our age!). We both love Clint Eastwood and he is often telling me about Clint and how much he enjoys his films. We were chatting and somehow the topic of McCloud came up and how fun it was. I mentioned Coogan's Bluff being a precursor to McCloud and sharing the same writer. Surprisingly, he had never heard of it. I loaned him the disc, and when he returned it his only comment was that it was pretty dated.
I was like, WTF? Pretty dated? You're a fan of Clint and the movie is 55 years old! What did you expect?!?

In regards to THE EIGER SANCTION (1975) I remember Vonetta McGee's character name was 'Jemima Brown' and gay spy Jack Cassidy had a dog in the movie he named "Phagut". And Clint does an impression of a gay deliveryman as well.

--------------------------

This afternoon I went to Kino-Lorber's site and ordered two more movies:

PUZZLE OF A DOWNFALL CHILD (1970-Drama) -and- CHECKERED FLAG OR CRASH (1977-Action).

I reckon I'll endeavour to pick up "For Those Who Think Young" (1964) in the near future as well. Got more '60s and '70s titles to snag. → I figured I'd buy two or three every month until I get all the ones I want. Disciplined buying . . . unless there's another ♠Big Sale♠ in which case I'd likely buy 4 or 5 discs at one pop!

I would hope so. The two "Blacula" films really are better than what they should have been, as William Marshall really did a great job in those movies.

If you think the sexism in The Eiger Sanction is bad, the homophobia is off the chart. Jack Cassidy plays a hit man as a mincing queen complete with a pet poodle with a name that is an anti-gay slur.

Still, none of that mars my enjoyment of the film because that was just how the 70s rolled.

Seconded. He elevated a tedious script to high drama with his performance. Another actor would have just played Blacula as a stock villain, but Marshall plays Prince Mamuwalde as a tragic figure, a man tormented by a horrific thirst for blood whose beloved wife was stolen from him twice.
