Yes. This episode was filler...because it FILLED MY HEART WITH JOY.

Like the term I coined before. Premium Mediocrity. Sure the last two episodes have been above average, but at the moment I still put Mado 1&2 and Andor ahead of it.

It was pretty dull - especially after all the hype. A few "flashback" sequences that were well done technically but were ultimately little more than action sequences with very little substance. What was the point of Anakin turning up? He says he wants to complete her training but all he does is hack at her with a lightsaber for 15 minutes. That's all she needed?

And who is that young kid's father? He appears to be about 10 years old but his father was a Jedi so the child would have been born around the time of RETURN OF THE JEDI? There was yet another Jedi floating around then?

I went full hog with the Clone Wars and Rebels, so its not like I'm unfamiliar with the characters. Hell, Ahsoka went from "I want you to die in a fire" to one of my favorite Wars characters ever and Rebels is a total blast for me.

Give all that, I was *really* looking forward to the series. But I just cant put my finger on why I'm just 'meh' about the show - beyond the "Oh come on, get on with it!" thing.

The first season of Clone Wars was really shaky (and we wont talk about that 3 episode 'movie') and it took some time for Rebels to get up to speed. So maybe by season 4 or 5, I'll look back and think 9/13/2023 me was an idiot - but right now? Meh.

I thought the sandpeople stuff was WAY more compelling than the drama in town. I was crushingly disappointed that the series end wasn't "Good guys outnumbered and losing badly - wait! It's the Tusken cavalry to the rescue!"

They set up Chekhov's gun and then didn't fire it!

Speaking as someone who saw the first run of Star Wars in theaters at the age of six, the visual storytelling and music was such you could have probably watched it without any dialog at all and understood what you needed to know. Little ship chased by giant ship, gets hit, skeletons invade and shoot people down, then a big scary nazi dressed in black making scary breathing sounds comes in, kills a guy, menaces a girl in white clothes and takes her prisoner, etc. etc. etc., while John Williams provides the emotional beats. Star Wars is such a perfect introduction to...well...Star Wars, that I wouldn't dream of showing the Saga to first-timers any other way.

Ahsoka at its best works like that, but there's a lot of talking about Ezra and Thrawn, and newbs don't know either of them, and the characters haven't shown up yet. Throw in Sentient Hyperspace Whales, I just don't know how this is playing in Peoria.

The show is okay. The fact that Thrawn is still not around is criminal.

Hera is annoying and one note.

Im glad they at least had some full body shots of the Anakin/Ahsoka fight.

My pet peeve of lightsaber battles is showing the action from the waist up.

Jacen’s father was a Padawan that survived Order 66. Years later he had a relationship with Hera and he died about a year before Episode 4. Jacen was born sometime around Episode 4. Ahsoka is about 5+ years after Return of the Jedi. So Jacen’s 9 or 10 years old.

Jacen is the same age as when Kylo Ren met Snoke

All the Easter eggs, "fan service", and "feels" aside, that was some of the best written Star Wars this century. And it's one of those episodes where, as fans often like to say, "NOTHING HAPPENS"!

The dialogue was sublime. I could have just listened to it without pictures and it would still be far superior to just about anything in the prequels. But it was just so appropriate for the dreamy, transcendental visuals.

I liked Asokha’s “i wont fight you” followed by Anakin’s “I’ve heard that before”. Nice nod to Luke vs Vader.

It's probably not gonna happen, but when the Obi-Wan series eventually comes out on Blu-Ray, it would be good if they "pulled a George Lucas" and de-aged Hayden and Ewan. It apparently wasn't in their budget to do that at the time.

WTF? Are you watching this on a cellphone with the display going out?
