Absolutely loved the movie. So happy to see that they're doing a 4K release. Can't wait to pick it up.

I’m happy too. Paramount had done it right this time around, much better movie than the ridiculous cgi ones from ‘14 and ‘16. The 1990 one will always remain a classic from my childhood

Definitely supporting this just to support Paramount finally releasing animation on 4K, but the movie was great too! Got my hands on a digital copy and I just know the Atmos is gonna be stellar.

Bass on streaming is absolutely thunderous and the Atmos is quite active with lots of surround activity, some decent object use and some pretty good height effects (with a good amount of object and bed-based height effects in play) and will probably be a subwoofer demo disc once it's available in lossless form. I definitely wanna do a Height Channel Isolation video at some point. It's mastered a bit low though (which I think is just the norm for streaming DD+ Atmos tracks now), I had to go from my reference volume of -8.0dB to 0dB , but after that it sounded great and rather powerful.

I may not have a 9.1.6 setup, but I have a 5.1 setup and separately I have Dolby Reference Player to decode and Cavern to visualize the mix, so I can at least get a basic idea of it :P

I'm disappointed that there's no audio commentary track for the film, but I guess that's a tradition with most of Nickelodeon's films that they don't contain any commentary track

Most of the setups I see that have more than two surrounds have pretty awkward room dimensions. Oh sure, so cool that you have all these speakers when there is little space between side right and back right or there's almost no space behind the sofa or the one surround is almost up on the ceiling or the sofa is blocking most of the back surround. Good 5.1 placement surely beats that. Same goes for four or six ceiling speakers when the sofa is almost against the wall.

My upstairs 5.1 setup is also kind of awkward, mostly because we can't fully center the couch and surrounds with the TV and front soundstage without blocking our front door (that we barely use anyway), but we actually have very convenient furniture that allows our surrounds to be the same height on each end of the couch. Despite the couch being slightly to the right and as a result my MLP, the center of the couch, being a bit closer to my FR speaker, it's manageable and the best we can do without basically rotating the room and everything to face a different wall that WILL allow us to center everything (and jnstall properly spaced middle heights!), but this house is a rental that we might not even be staying at for much longer? so we don't wanna go all willy nilly drilling holes to remount the TV, and It's ultimately down to what my parents think. :P

My aim is to eventually have at least 5.1.4 with high wall-mounted height speakers, closer to an Auro-3D layout than Atmos with ceiling speakers but I'm most likely gonna wait till i'm on my own and have the proper space to do so. I can lose the back surrounds, a lot of the time they don't seem important and more like a "nice to have if possible" thing.

Personally not all that into it, I prefer the original art, and if it's changing to this I'll probably get the steelbook instead. I like the OG one more than the steelbook, but prefer the steelbook to this new art.

However it's UPSCALED 4K? Can't they just 'render out' a 4K master of a CGI Animated movie? Or were the original 'assets' just not produced with 4K textures etc.?

Figured native 4K would really benefit the image quality on a Cinema screen?

Is there ANY chance that a streaming service will ever offer a LOSSLESS AUDIO 'tier'?

It kind of sucks that I invested in a nice Dolby Atmos/DTS-X AVR and installed 4 additional speakers in my ceiling, but unless movies get a 4K UHD release then I'm stuck with either TrueHD 7.1/DTS-HD (assuming there's at least a BluRay). Or have to settle for the COMPRESSED DD+ 'Atmos Light' that seems to be the highest quality available on any streaming platform...

And anyone else in my situation, do you prefer the lossless TrueHD/DTSMA on BluRay, or the compressed 'Atmos' offered on streaming?

I wish...we've had the same compressed streaming Atmos for six years and I guarantee most people can swing the extra 2.5-6 Mbps lossless would require. The US has gone from 134 Mbps average fixed broadband speed in Nov 2021 to 210 Mbps last month according to Oookla/Speedtest. Pretty big jump.

Hell, I would pay extra for lossless streaming. A $1-2 surcharge per purchased movie or a couple bucks extra a month for a streaming service? Take my money!

As much as I'm a bit ashamed to admit it I buy on iTunes when the disc is missing Atmos. I have a 9.3.6 setup - if there's an Atmos track I want to hear it - lossy or not. At least Apple/iTunes is 768 Kbps. Still compromised though. Not only is the audio itself compressed so is the positional data for the objects; causing localization of sounds to not be as accurate as lossless.
