Hard to imagine that leading somewhere good
the issue IMHO is people are idiots that think it makes them sound cooler. If someone sits down and watches a 2h film or 2h of tiktok is there a difference on attention span? what if someone watches SNL or the same amount of time of Youtube or how about Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different?

i also think it tends to deceive people in the sense that they don't realize they just spent 2h watching stuff because it is a bunch of short videos.

The only negative IMHO is that watching too much "garbage" ends up making people more gullible. but that has no effect on watching.

Crap content is also as old as the movies themselves.

Yep. The vast majority of movies, TV shows, books, music, and video games in every era have been crap. But since crap doesn't withstand the test of time people forget about all the crap from the past and think that there is way more of it made today.

You told us that people watching long form content on their phones meant that TVs were doomed. They aren't.

Now you tell us that people watching short form content on their (doomed) TVs means that long form content is also in trouble. It isn't.

Aren't there enough REAL things to worry about in this life without imagining all of these baseless silly ones?
Yep, a boatload of stuff.

Short form videos are as old as the movies themselves. They are not a threat to anything.
15-30 second shorts are not as old as time. (Most popular with advertisers)

Vertical videos of 15 seconds has no place on a big screen tv, period.

Actually, they are.

Roundhay Garden Scene 1888 runtime 2.11 seconds.

Dickson Greeting 1891 runtime 3 seconds

Blacksmith Scene 1893 runtime 34 seconds

Carmencita 1894 runtime 21 seconds

The Execution of Mary Stuart 1895 runtime 18 seconds

...and that's just to name a few.

I have DVD collections that feature numerous such films.

And before video there were 15-30 second poems but they didn't stop people from reading novels.

Short-form content and long-form content have both existed for thousands of years.

Don't know if anyone is still keeping up with the Walking Dead or its spin-offs but the new one, Daryl Dixon, is quite excellent. The first 3 episodes are on AMC+ right now.

I have read good things about that spinoff, but I won't subscribe to AMC+ to see it. Hopefully, I will get a chance to see it on blu-ray someday.

Wasn’t that just down to capability though?

No, and I am super pissed about that. I watched every single episode of TWD and stuck with it until the very end, now, folk in the U.K. don’t even have the option of watching the Negan/Maggie spin off or Daryl’s adventures, let alone owning it on disc.

Producers of motion pictures way back when, were not convinced people would pay money to watch their productions. You are talking about the beginning of "movies."

So why sink a lot of money into something that could be called a fad - here today, gone tomorrow.

It was not a limitation due to capability. For example The Corbett-Fitzsimmons Fight was made in 1897 and it ran for over 100 minutes. It was also the first documentary shot in "widescreeen" 1:65 to 1. Same link that I gave before.

I only got into E4 of the Negan/Maggie spinoff. I have to go back into. Is AMC+ available in your territory?

No. We used to get TWD via Fox (On Sky tv) until Disney took it over. I assumed Disney would be showing the spin offs but nothing. In other words, would have been better off had it still been on Fox. Disney have a habit of pissing me off. They stopped putting out discs for American Horror Story eight seasons in.
