A truth is that we watch movies and TV shows as a form of escapism and because of social media, we've become hyper exposed to "attractive" and significantly above average people on a daily basis. Before the internet, it was movies, magazines and rarely in person we would come across these people. Open up Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok etc. and nowadays you'd think the majority of people are "good looking" and you're not. That's before you even consider the perverse use of filters on average people.

It's even worse when you realise that movie studios etc. have over recent years started using filters on their actors too. I noticed this on quite a few K Dramas and stuff i watched where women and also men were filtered to give an impression of more pale/white perfectly porcelain skin. An unfortunate Eastern beauty standard 99% really will never be able to match.

In truth, Hollywood has always used "above average" looking actors as leading ladies and men. That's always going to be the case but there's also exceptions where people look more "average" to be relatable to regular folks too.
Colin Farrell was so miscast in that movie. I've only liked him in Martin McDonagh movies. Everything else? Not up to snuff. But speaking about the Penguin, that was tailor made for Josh Gad or Jonah Hill. Why not use them?
