could they be tossing it on the new BB steelbook set? but it would seem strange to not have then also delayed the JP only 30th anniversary set until then to also get a new disc

I just went to a 2D screening today, one complaint is it opens with the modern CGI Universal logo, rather than the one from the early 90s. I think parts of the film can look more 4K than other parts, but I wouldn’t say it blew me away. I didn’t notice much grain except during the mosquito animated sequence and the brief shot of the waves, and there were a few instances of halos around characters or signs, mostly during the CGI sequences integrated with live action (opticals?) The colours and some of the detail seemed good at least.

One thing I did notice from this viewing is the memefication of the film, from the iconic theme to “your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should” and Goldblum as a shirtless thirst trap, and even dinosaurs as a concept becoming more popularised in the 80s/90s alongside scientific discoveries and The Land Before Time. Coincidentally, the trailer for Salaar references Jurassic Park!

Park Circus have a 30th anniversary trailer on their YouTube:

It was never pristine, it's always had optical comp and weird focus issues here and there.
But it can and should look beautiful, shame it never had on home video

Park Circus have a 30th anniversary trailer on their YouTube:

https://www.parkcircus.com/latest/P2...th-anniversary
They just used one of the eyes of the 3D remaster, which was based on a 4K scan done in 2013, but was heavily de-grained. I studied the new trailer for the re-release. They even retained the floating windows which only appear in 3D versions. Universal Pictures, when it comes to the Jurassic park franchise, has almost always used older, inferior masters for both home video and exhibition. They know JP is so popular that fans will turn up regardless of whether it's a restoration or non-restored, dated version. And every time, they do turn a profit.

The current 4K Blu-ray retains the same cold, pinkish digital grading which is the opposite of the warm, sun-kissed look of the film on 35mm. Plus, every time they bring out a home video version, they keep cropping/zooming into the image further, as they have done in the 4K version. The Laserdisc and the THX VHS had the widest framing that looked beautiful and was also largely faithful to the 35mm projected framing where the dinosaur heads didn't get chopped out at the top.

I doubt we'll ever get a proper remaster of JP or any of the other two films in the trilogy. Only The Lost World somehow looks good, even though it too doesn't have the exact same look as the prints.

JP3 4K has a great master hiding underneath that artificially imposed darkness. One just needs to lift the brightness and the colours to make it look great. It has plenty of fine grain.

I just hope that a new management takes over the JP series at Universal; people who actually care for the original trilogy and respects the work and the artistry in those films. Only then we may get proper restorations that are more faithful to the 35mm projected look.

They’re probably not going to make a new disc. Isn’t the 30th AE set just the existing discs?

The steelbook set is nothing but a repackage… because they know it’ll sell.

New vintage trailer scan just dropped.

Some blown out skies and hot saturation, otherwise looks good.

Cool. Nice they they decoded the DTS.
Yeah looks like they scanned it (or processed it) a bit too hot though as highlights are a bit blown and the whole upper tones are a bit bright.
In time, a different scan will show up on YouTube that will also show it in open matte as well as 1.85:1 cropped.

This version is now only $10.99

https://www.amazon.com/Jurassic-Park...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Just wondering, is there a better looking release of this movie or is this it? I'd rather pay more if there's a version out there that looks more like film rather than film that's processed.

Thanks!

All the 4k discs in the wild are from the same Universal Studios source.

Hopefully it will come with the slipcover, but the Universal ones seem to disappear quickly.

I'll be sure to let you know. Actually I wasn't thinking much of it since the image on Amazon does not show a slipcover.

The level of contempt by Universal to this film is unfathomable.

Why? Because of a slipcover? Or is this a really bad transfer?
