Glad to have them onboard, even though their first title interests me as much as a trip to Kansas.

Lmao...I hear you. It's a start and unfortunately if this title does not sell well on Blu-Ray it may end up steering them towards the opposition. It received rave reviews and supposedly a great family film so maybe I'll purchase just cause.

I actually let my wife drag me to the theater so see this.

I'm not into this kind of movie, but it was ok. My wife liked it, and I'm sure she will want this on BD.

What confuses me is I know I saw a press release that stated that they have planned to release LotR trilogy theatrical edition to both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. And yet now I hear nothing about it at all. Perhaps Hairspray will be the first one they release, but isn't LotR on the list? I always hear people saying things like "They are going to release Hairspray but not LotR?" and the like.
Was I hallucinating or did they indeed already announce that they will release LotR on both formats as well, just at a later date?

There was no LOTR press release

You save titles like that for bigger audiences. While you may see LOTR theatrical next year, you're not going to see extended editions till hobbit hits.

All the titles they're releasing are essentially new releases

Maybe they'll throw us a bone and give us Austin Powers in the next 6 months or so? I cannot wait to see that in HD with all of the colors, etc.

I don't know, the Hobbit is an MGM production so unless they do a joint promotional deal, it could be that they use seamless branching to get the theatrical and DC onto the same disc.

strange, I remember seeing it on an official looking page and there was a lot of comments later about how it wasn't the extended editions.

But now I can't find it. Hmmm.. :\

New Line owns the rights through to the end of the year, MGM owns distribution rights

I firmly believe that WB will make Bob Shaye make up with PJ before the expiration. There's probably half a billion dollars on the line for it

you know....I know its Hairspray and all...I never saw it in theaters and I am not sure if its good or not, I guess I'll have to wait and see it first before making judgement...I would never even consider it on home video if it wasn't for old J.T in it! If it was some other hack playing John Travolta's part I wouldnt even give it a chance...

I hope so. Peter Jackson making The Hobbit, with as much of the locations and (where relevant) stars from LOTR, would be awesome. The continuity would greatly add to my enjoyment, especially given the fantastic job he did with LOTR.

Not interested in Hairspray (I don't buy or watch movies with Tom cruise or John Travolta in them) still New Line does Rush Hour (I think) and LOTR so I am glad to see them starting support.

New Line first has to pay Peter Jackson the money they own him from LotR:FotR. He is in a big dispute with them over it cause it is a lot of money they never paid him and he won't make any more films with them until they pay him.
At least that's the way I heard it. I'm sure someone here has a better link or something.

I liked Hairspray. It had good songs, funny parts, good acting, and even historical things that reflected a change for a greater good beyond what the characters wanted for themselves (it was a time of segregation they fought against).

I'll prolly get it on BD.

Quite a few people liked Hairspray and it did well at the box office ($115 million) but I can't see this being a big seller on Blu. DVD maybe.

I hope I'm dead wrong.

Default I Saw it

I actually saw hairspray and as far as a film goes it was very well made and actually funnier than it had any right to be haha my girlfriend dragged....druged...drug....whatever, MADE me go to it and i was actually pleasantly surprised hopefully they do the blu-ray justice with nice specs and it may be the first musical i think i've ever bought. Considering how much money it made in theaters its a good way for new line to start and has the potential to really give blu ray some credibility to them with sales

It just depends, I saw it w/my daughter and she loved it - I think alot of women and kids will want it. Women were the driving force behind Titanics theatrical success. I dont know, we will see.
