I've read both Blindness and its sequel, called Seeing (not Sight, as one person posted) and they are incredible books. If you think Blindness was depressing, wait to you read Seeing! I keep putting off seeing this movie despite being a Meirelles fan (City of God, Constant Gardener) because I think it is an unfilmable novel. One of the reasons the novel is so acclaimed is because of Saramago's trademark narrative structure, which plays a major part in the mood and tone of the book. Of course, it would be unfair of me to judge the movie since I have not seen it. I guess part of my reluctance is seeing a movie based on one of my favorite books and having my mental image of it ruined (such was the case with another of my favorite books, Alex Garland's "The Beach"). But, alas, I think it is likely that I will give in at some point and watch the movie!
