Does MGM still hold the rights to the Alain Delon film The Unvanquished in the US? This one really needs a release.

Coming to Blu-ray from Cohen Media Group and Kino Lorber on January 23rd!

The Sea Shall Not Have Them and Albert R.N.: Two British Wartime Classics Directed by Lewis Gilbert

Pre-order: https://kinolorber.com/product/the-sea-shall-not-have-them-and-albert-r-n-two-british-wartime-classics-directed-by-lewis-gilbert

Two Gripping and Suspenseful WWII Dramas Directed by Lewis Gilbert (Alfie, You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me)!

In Lewis Gilbert’s memorable WWII saga THE SEA SHALL NOT HAVE THEM (1954), four Allied men struggle to survive in a lifeboat on the North Sea after their plane is shot down. One of the men carries secret documents that can save London from Nazi destruction. In a daring race against time, will their rescuers save them before Nazi U-boats, stormy seas, exposure, and enemy-mined waters kill them?

In ALBERT R.N. (1953), a group of British POWs suspects that there is a German spy in its midst after several escape attempts are foiled. Deftly directed by Lewis Gilbert and supported by Jack Asher’s moody cinematography, ALBERT R.N. stands beside paragons of the genre such as STALAG 17 and THE GREAT ESCAPE.

Includes:
*Optional English SDH subtitles
*ALBERT R.N. Trailer

Hopefully Cohen will have a better transfer than the UK blu-ray of The Sea Shall Not Have Them, which was awful.

Kino insider, any ideas if there are more Douglas Fairbanks coming from Cohen? Most of us are hoping for a Zorro double feature next!

Coming January 9th!

THE HELL WITH HEROES (1968)
• Brand New HD Master – From a 2K Scan of the 35mm Interpositive!
• NEW Audio Commentary by Filmmaker/Historian Steve Mitchell and Combat Films: American Realism Author Steven Jay Rubin
• Theatrical Trailer (Newly Mastered in 2K)
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 102 Minutes 2.35:1 Not Rated
Set in North Africa and Europe immediately following World War II, The Hell with Heroes centers on two former U.S. Air Force pilots played by Rod Taylor (The High Commissioner) and Pete Duel (Cannon for Cordoba). Brynie MacKay (Taylor) and Mike Brewer (Duel) are forced to work for ruthless international smuggler Lee Harris (Harry Guardino, Madigan) to get money needed for their return to civilian life. But when Brynie learns he is flying contraband cigarettes, he extracts a larger fee from Harris, who retaliates by hiding narcotics in Brynie’s plane and then reporting him to Colonel Wilson of U.S. Counterintelligence (Kevin McCarthy, Invasion of the Body Snatchers). With Brynie’s aircraft and money now seized, the beautiful Elena (Claudia Cardinale, Cartouche), Harris’s mistress, comes to Brynie’s aid. Featuring a lush score by music legend Quincy Jones (In the Heat of the Night), this post-WWII drama is shot through with action, adventure and romance, courtesy of director Joseph Sargent (White Lightning, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, MacArthur).

The Unvanquished was last with Warner (who owns the pre-1986 MGM catalog), but seems to have reverted to whoever owns the catalog of the French producers. My money's on Gaumont since they control a few other French MGM distributed titles Kino released.

Albert R.N. was on UK TV a few years ago in HD & looked very nice, I hope it gets a UK Blu-ray release soon.

I made a small (mostly) While Supplies Last order. Didn't want to miss out on anything going out of print quickly on the next sale. Speaking of.... I'm counting down the days to the next sale on November 30th, and Monster Squad / a bunch of the early December pre-sale titles.

Ah, another 1960s UNIVERAL PICTURE comes to Life after being buried for decades!

THE HELL WITH HEROES (1968) is on the horizon at last. A 'must-buy'.

I have a query, o Kino-Lorber Insider: How does your staff decided what movies to put out on DVD, Blu-Ray and/or 4k? Specifically 1960s and '70s UNIVERSAL movies -- which are the ♠main♠ movies I'm after.

P.J. (1968) was first issued on DVD and Blu-Ray and now appears to be 'Blu-Ray only' after the DVD-issue of "P.J." sold out.

WHAT'S SO BAD ABOUT FEELING GOOD? (1968) was issued on DVD and Blu-Ray and is still available on both mediums.

Meanwhile -- and I know this movie is OOP now -- the 1968-made/1970-release UNIVERSAL-distributed picture STORY OF A WOMAN with Robert Stack was 'Blu-Ray only'.

I'm trying to figure out the methodology here for which 'Catalog-title' movies are going to be issued on DVD or Blu-Ray or both or even 4k.

Another example: CODE RED, in association with Kino-Lorber, issued ONE MORE TRAIN TO ROB (1971-Western) on Blu-Ray only.

However, CODE RED, also in association with Kino-Lorber -- issued CHECKERED FLAG OR CRASH (1977-Action) on DVD and Blu-Ray.

-------------

My curiosity perks up as to why various '60s/'70s Catalog Titles are issued on DVD and Blu-Ray or Blu-Ray only or Blu-Ray and 4k.

My query could well be too "heavy" for here, but I figured to inquire anyway!
--------------
ALSO: I just thought of a Paramount movie I've never seen issued on any homevideo medium before: WIVES AND LOVERS (1963).

Jon Mulvaney at Criterion says their discs are hand-packed into cases. Does Kino do the same? Shout? Others?

My personal experience is that I have received more Criterion discs that are floating around inside the case or scratched than I have from KL, regardless of how they are packed.

Coming January 9th!
https://kinolorber.com/product/split-image

SPLIT IMAGE (1982)
• Brand New HD Master – From a 2K Scan of the 35mm Interpositive!
• NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian/Filmmaker Daniel Kremer
• Theatrical Trailer (Newly Mastered in 2K)
• Limited Edition O-Card Slipcase
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 111 Minutes 2.35:1 Rated R
Split Image is a spirit-stirring story revolving around an all-American college athlete, Danny Stetson (Michael O’Keefe, The Great Santini), who is innocently lured into Homeland, a youth-oriented cult, by a compellingly beautiful girl (Karen Allen, Raiders of the Lost Ark). Here he is programmed by the charismatic leader Neil Kirklander (Peter Fonda, Ulee’s Gold) to believe that his new life now has the true meaning that it previously lacked. Anguished by their son’s disappearance, the Stetsons hire a modern-day bounty hunter, Charles Pratt (James Woods, Cop), to abduct Danny and exorcise his brainwashed mind, deprogramming him to return him to his family and friends. A truly intense psychological drama directed by suspense master Ted Kotcheff (Billy Two Hats, North Dallas Forty, First Blood). Featuring Elizabeth Ashley (The Carpetbaggers) and Brian Dennehy (F/X) as Danny’s parents; music by Bill Conti (Rocky).

YAY! for more Bob Hope of course, but I already own the Olive release. Not sure a new commentary is enough to start double-dipping on Bob Hope movies.

[Show spoiler] He said; Knowing full well that someday it will drop below $10 and he'll probably get it anyway!

I think Olive released some Bob Hope titles that I have not already purchased, so I hope KL will release those as well.
