USA Wednesday - The Complete First Season (2022) Blu-ray

MGM (via Warner distribution) will be releasing the complete first season of Wednesday on Blu-ray early next year. The popular show, which stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, originally streamed on Netflix. I watched it last year, and really enjoyed it.

Quote:
Wednesday is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

This is a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting this to get a physical release any time soon.

I must admit i'm in a quandary nowadays about stuff like this. As someone who loves physical media, for a TV show I'd want, I'd usually probably hold off getting it on disc in separate volumes and wait til the show was cancelled/ended and hopefully get a box set. Now I wonder - say if this show lasted 5 seasons at a season a year, in another 4 years would they still consider releasing the complete series as whole on physical media? Would they even bother releasing later series on disc anyway?

Notice this is only a US release. Still, I have a region free player so could import ...

As someone who bought seasons 1 and 2 of Stranger Things assuming Netflix would keep putting them out, I would say it is not a safe bet lol although maybe it's different since the production companies are different

With created-for- streaming shows, at this point, I have an “I’ll take what I can get” approach. The entire run would be ideal, but I’m just happy that any shows created for a streaming service make it to disc at all.

With Zaslav taking everything at MGM/Warners apart to melt down or sell as scrap, there’s no way to predict. I’d recommend taking anything you can get now.

Don't think he has a say in MGM, that's still owned by Amazon, WB is just distributing it. All he could do is just not release a disc of their properties and MGM would have to find somebody else.

Netflix doing the absolute bare minimum with zero extras for a quick buck.

They literally already have competed featurettes they could easily throw on there.

Surprised by this but equally excited to be able to add Burton's first television project to the collection.

It might be because Stranger Things is owned by Netflix where this is owned by MGM but being produced for Netflix. Same deal as Cobra Kai which is owned by Sony and have had all five seasons so far released on DVD.I think the projects owned by other studios but are produced to air on Netflix have a better shot at physical releases. At least a faster shot at physical releases.

I might get this. We don't have access to Netflix anymore and my mom enjoyed the show.

speaking of Cobra Kai, whatever happened to the last couple of seasons on blu-ray? blu-ray is poor enough for a 4k show, but DVD, come on hell no

The Duffer Brothers said they are "working on that" ... but IMO, Netflix is waiting to put out the Complete Series / Collector's Edition and will charge plenty for it.

and I'd pay for it. All seasons on glorious 4k with lots of extras I'd pay a lot for it and be happy about it. haha

Never saw Wednesday, but I might blind buy this one, to help the cause, and because I do love Tim Burton (few things aside) and LOVE the Addams Family.

It shouldn't strike me as a surprise that 4K produced stuff doesn't get released on 4K, but still.. it's kind of a pity. Better this than nothing, I guess.

It's possible we could see a 4K show up as a MOD release.
